Have you have much luck with just RGB lumia rigs. I have been amazed at the colors coming from just my 3 diode source. Been trying to grab it on video, but it hot spots badly on camera and loses the beauty.

EDIT: is this workshop at your home? :eek
I haven't actually built any kind of lumia so far. The only ones I have even seen were a few smaller units at SELEM. My thought is that if you can incorporate any more wavelength sources then you will be able to produce richer and more subtle colors. Plus, more laser sources will produce a brighter overall output. Have you seen those "Rainbow over XXXXX" images? I think the appeal of these unusual colors is what make these interesting.

The workshop is one of the rooms in an outbuilding on our property that is a Geek's paradise. The camera man is working on a computer that might, just might set a record. And that will definitely be covered in an upcoming video.

RofL "Mad scientist in his lair changes laser beam colors with space-age frozen liquid" I can see the headlines now. But seriously Mr.P great vid.. This one looks more aimed towards academia.. with the logos and music .. suited for a classroom maybe? But, back on topic, I can now foresee 20W yellow/orange lasers with LN2 fog rolling out of them onto the floor looking very futuristic and sci-fi. LN2 is cheap in the northeast? I don't suppose I can just roll on down to air-gas and order a canister, right ..or not .. ? Where do you get yours? Does it require some kind of permit? I was rofling looking at you pouring liquid nitrogen into a styrofoam cup. You're a wild-man dude Double-kudos on the great work !!!

Liquid nitrogen is fun... I have seen people pour it over the heads of an audience, or put their hand very briefly in it... I have yet to try that :P

That was a very cool vid, will there be more on that channel? If so, I'll subscribe...
I loved that diffraction grating, it showed the real colour much better than that one bright beam. One thing I'd like to see is a timelapse of that effect when the setup is heating up again!

Yes, it is. Depending on the cosmetic quality, a 20-30L dewar can be had on eBay for as little as $150. The welding supply house that fills the dewar you saw in the video (22L) charges $40 for a fill and it is no different than buying welding supplies. I believe they also are a subsidiary of Air Gas. Neither the NSA,IRS, EPA nor even Michelle have any part in the transaction (yet).

Oh, yes! This was just the first one.

Thank you sir, the whole house enjoyed watching!

Laser (the acronym derived from Light Amplification by Stimulated Emissions of Radiation) is a spectacular manifestation of this process. It is a source which emits a kind of light of unrivaled purity and intensity not found in any of the previously known sources of radiation. - Lasers & Non-Linear Optics, B.B. Laud.

Actually, we are into computers, software AND lasers. So we decided to improve the video quality and start producing videos covering overclocking experiments, equipment reviews, software development and laser demos. By gathering them all together under one banner there might be some additional exposure.

    I'd strongly advise against that.

Here's a cautionary tale from the UK - a woman who had to have her stomach removed to save her life after drinking a cocktail containing liquid nitrogen to make it smoke:

It appears some liquid was remaing.

A good reminder of what cryogenics can do to human tissue.

If any DJ poured liquid nitrogen over my head, I'd be reporting them for assault even if it caused no permanent damage.

The culprit was William Philips, who got the Nobel prize for inventing laser cooling :P
