Laser Warning Pangolin quickshow midi over lan

    Hi everyone

Iv recently been working in Manchester academy on various gigs and the arenas are all pretty big. Every time I setup I'm getting more and more annoyed with running 3 seperate ilda cables 60m to the stage.

I had a brain wave that I could setup my computer on stage then run a network to the back meaning 1 easy to run rj45 cable instead of loads of heavy ilda cables. Sounds perfect?

Well I hit a big snag!!!! I got it setup so that one computer controls the other using remote network desktop. I then realised that I use midi controllers and these would not work as they would have to be plugged into the first computer.
    Oh no

Well I researched the Internet and found applications for this exact problem, woohoo

I installed and setup as per instructions and appeared to function properly until starting quickshow to test if my labours had been worth it

Quickshow started and once loaded said cannot open midi device.

I thought it was my setup so tried and tried but it worked with other midi program's I have just not quickshow.

Can anyone help with a solution to this or any other solution that could help

    Thanks in advance

There is another thread right now discussing the possibility of using CAT5 for long distances; I think your solution makes more sense. Perhaps you should chime in & link this thread, since it's relevant. Nice work, BTW:-)

GOOD job- and yes a tut -links and more info would be super--
I was wondering about using QS and DMX at the same time- The PJ I am working on has a efx wheel that I would like to use with QS but so far no luck getting the efx to stay usable once I plug in the ILDA cable-- any thoughts on this? I have an excellent Kasio synth MIDI keyboard
that I also would like to use as well as the Akai CP 40 controller- I also have BEYOND and two more laptops--I have 5paghetti on both of them and also own Mamba Black clone and I-Show if needed-- TY len

I will make an in depth tutorial with screen shots ASAP.

In short I downloaded rtpmidi http://www.tobias-erichsen.de/software/rtpmidi.htm on both laptops
This allows for midi to be sent over a LAN network via rj45 or wifi.
I then use a VNC program so I can control the first computer with the second.
Boom done i can wire all the dacs up to the first computer on the stage, run one rj45 to the back and setup second computer. Setup a LAN and run both program's. this should then allow midi on the second and let you control and see whats happening on the first.

The VNC I tried was ultra VNC but it was very slow so tried team viewer 8 which worked amazingly well.

It's a little confusing how iv written it but I will try an create a proper tutorial

    Cheers
