Choosing a laser dac + software
Hi,
I've made my own projector a while back (20kpps galvos, 1,2w combined power fully analog).
I also made my own sound card dac, but had a lot of problems with it (distorted output, green channel not being used, etc).
So for the last couple of times i just Pangolin to control it, and i have to say: it works perfectly.
The downside however is, the cost of renting the dongle is 50 euro's each time.. so i think it is smarter if i just invest in a dongle myself.
I also had a mamba black dongle laying around for a while, but without the mamba software so i had to use HE-laserscan.
that experience was not good, the dac was instable for me (might have been a hardware issue) and i don't like HE-laserscan that much.
Also the beams were vibrating a lot, something i didn't experience with Pangolin or my own soundcard dac.
Now the question, what is the best dac + software to start with?
The main use will be to give live beamshows in clubs and small events, with about 500 visitors.
My budget is around €400 for both software and dac.
I already checked and i found the following items interesting:
Pangolin Quickshow (FB3 dac) ~ €390,-
Pros:
- Easy to use
- Small dac
- Easy to sell when i upgrade
- Huge userbase and content available
Cons:
- Can only be used with quickshow
- Price
Riya dac + Lasershow Xpress ~ $300,-
Pros:
- usable with multiple software packages
- Low price
- Nice and easy abstract shows
- Advanced features (timecode etc)
Cons:
- Relatively small userbase
- Confusing for new users (only an issue when someone hires the laser + dac and wants to operate it himself.)
Im also interested in other dacs (easylase, etherdream etc) but i don't know a lot about those.
Thanks in advance!
