    Default Aw shit moment...

So... it happened. Fortunately it was for one of my staff's wedding and, it was at the end of the night and nobody noticed since I had two othe projectors running but, I have perhaps a galvo issue. I haven't done the trouble shooting yet but probably will on Monday. I'm going to try another computer and another ILDA cable but, here's what happened. Basically, dots became horizontal lines. So, for example, if you used a hot beams cue, rather than a dot, it was a line about a foot wide. When using a fan of beams cue, it appeared to be a solid line. I tried a couple of graphics and abstracts and they were not completely collapsed but, mis-shapen. These are DT40wides. I also stopped and waited a bit and tried it again in case it was a cooling issue but, same result. I've had a galvo die so, I know what that's like but, this is different in that I still have shapes made up of X and Y movement. Just not accurate.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks!

Sounds like a grounding issue. Check pin 25 on your projector and your cables....

Thanks... I'm hoping it's a simple cable issue. I've got hundreds of feet of other ILDA cable. Maybe the foot of a chair crushed it a little or something. Just makes you a little sick to your stomach when a problem arises on one of your best projectors.

Yeeah, only if he was running single-ended.. Seems like most (even ChiCo..) pj's seem to run differential, these days.. Not to say it could not be a 'heel-shorn cable'-issue, etc, but.. Agreed, sounds like he's got a ground-issue, but just voicing, might be more something with a cold-solder on a DB25-cup, or, might be an amp or galvo-PD issue...

Sir B, if you wanna call me when you are 'at the pj', on Mon, I'll be happy to spend some time walking ya thru the first few 'most-common' steps, (beyond cable-issue, etc..) to galvo / amp trouble-shooting.. quick, painless, and 9/10, will get you 'an answer', at least.. Like you say, hopefully, it's something relatively simple...

Curiousity got the best of me so I came into work to test and it's fine. Phew. I don't know if it's the ILDA cable... I'll test that later but, pulled it down off the stand and used another cable and we're all good.

Wasn't in a good frame of mind last night anyway so, that was sort of the icing to set me off and post the possible woes.

    Thanks guys!

No, I haven't really done anything with your old projector. I cleaned it up and aligned things a little but, it lives in a closet. It's really too big to use. I'll probably take it to SELEM but, I 'm still trying to figure out what to do with it. This was my 3 watt from CT Lasers.

Did ya confirm the cable, or did you have a driver over heating?

Sorry to hear the cake n icing were no good.

Haven't had a chance to test it yet. Monday morning BS trying to wrap up the weekend and get things in place for this week. If I don't get to it during the day, it may be this evening since ImageLight and I are probably going to do some pre-SELEM show testing tonight or tomorrow. It's only ever overheated once and that was a few hours after he gave it to me at SELEM. It's logged a lot of hours since and never had a problem. It wasn't even warm to the touch on Saturday night.

Wish I could be there your place, ill be at SELEM. been tryin to get my Lumia rig all set to go. Just kinda worried about the power of it in the lounge area, being 2W. The center spot before it breaks on the lumia tubes can get hot. Might travel light this year and leave my projector at home, but I really like viewing er in the auditorium when it isn't in use. Especially now after I added another 2W of red. Ahh will see.
