Great find there, thanks for sharing.

The FAC is likely not going to cut it for laser display use but a new option worth looking at.

I see they've already put that in a remote control shaped pointer! Who needs 7W to point at a projection screen for heaven's sake when 5mw 532 does the job perfectly. Probably set screen on fire if you paused in one place!

Other drawbacks with Sony developments are the wide emitter and the 635nm wavelength.

    Interesting read though.

If they managed to make a pointer style beam from it, the emitter can't be so wide. Its very interest indeed.

Looking at the picture the pointer "dot" is quite wide and quite thick (bit like a house brick in fact), from a very short throw distance which looks like it might only be around 2 metres.

Correct but, they do state this:

"The brilliant red can reach a screen one or two kilometers away" which would imply that the beam has pretty good divergence. Of course that depend how big that screen is they write about.

It is speculation of the unknown, I am going to try and order one to see if it is better that what I am doing.

My beam is good but suffering from a lot of scatter which is what I work on now.

    Andy,

I am not the only one who remembers that fiasco, but I would advise anyone who is uncertain about what I am talking about to revisit that thread. The 2mm lens works and so does a 4mm lens (just as well by measurements in a lab and not just against a tree) and your refusal to be forthcoming at that time is what sets the tone for this new development.

So, I will refrain from giving you any orders. I hope your presentation turns out to be useful, but we will just have to see when some objective measurements can be made.

    Hi all,
it would also appear that the document that I put above, dates from 2005. Currently a similar diode is undergoing development at Sony (SLD1431)

(.. and yes, I believe that you were the founder of the 1st micro-lens to tame the g-71/p-73)

Something new I saw with the red, I am getting better beam specs than with the traditional 300/500mW Mitsu red which makes me think the die elements are not exactly the same.
