The plot thickens....
I asked and they replied, "Fully diode"... Anyone else seen 460nm diodes?
Nichia was talking about them some time ago.
If they have been released, I bet they will still be pricey as :-(

Think about it. 445nm 1W $50.00 or 460nm 1W $xxxx.xx To the eye it won't matter. Just use more 445nm and be happy. It's not like red where you can see the difference in hue. In fact the 445nm should give a larger pallet to work wth.
It's like complaining that you have too much 640nm and an expensive 632nm laser just came out. Sometimes I think we fixate a bit too much.
I dare too differ. If a smaller wavelenght would give a larger , then 405 would be king. But it is not as we all know.In fact the 445nm should give a larger pallet to work wth.
If you compare the respective triangles into the color-locus, you'll see that they have the same surface, (half height x base)
But I agree it is all nitpicking as you just said.
It might be that there are secondary dis(advantages) such as better or worse scattering.
dont we have similar conversations on here about 660 and 638 and which one does everyone recommend cos its brighter...

... not to mention the 473 vs 445 discussion ...
My wife loves the 488. She calls it "peacock color". When I switched to 445 she said "where's the peacock color ?? .. this color looks almost gray .. "
Made me think a bit ..
I think 460 nm would be a nice compromise between the sky-blue of 473 nm DPSS blue, and the deep blue of 445 nm direct-injection blue.
While I will admit that 445 looks great for beam shows, and even for some graphics shows, there are frames that, at least in my opinion, look terrible in 445 because it's too dark of a shade. In those cases, I really miss having 473 nm DPSS blue.
That being said, Marc is right. In the end, price is king. So if 460 nm blue ends up being an order of magnitude more expensive than 445 nm blue, it's doomed.

I agree with above post. 460 looks great as opposed to 445. It doesn't sound like much, but it gives the blue everyone is really after. Especially for graphics. The lighter tint seems to be easier on the eyes and is a more "happy" color technically speaking.![]()
