    LOL...

Yes, I CAN build one and have the basic premise. It's figuring out how you're coming up with 5w green, 5w red, 10w blue with Eye Magics for $6500 that I'm not figuring out. 5 watts or red and 10 watts of blue with Kvant stamped on the side is going to be a lot more than $6500 let alone what's left after buying the eye magics, case, power supplies, optics, green etc.

I fiqured you were referencing an individual building the red/blue modules themselves and THAT's the part I don't really have any experience with. I guess the green could be two Opt 2 watt greens from Goldenstar PBS'd together which would only end up being about $1500 of that budget and just hope they're running hot. Then $1300 for the Eye magics, leaves $3700 for the remainder. I guess if you earmark $700 for case, supplies, optics etc., I guess maybe $3000 to build a 5watt red and 10 watt blue IS doable.

Yes, you just about covered my thoughts. The Laserwave do all seem to run hot. I'm three for three. and 2.5W x two for $2,200. Now I don't want to start a fight, but I won't walk away from this one. I wouldn't consider a Kavant because I don't have any direct experience with them, but based on their specs and their price I believe you could build a red and a blue module that preformed better ( I certainly can) for much less, as in < $1,000 each. This includes the correction optics and the high performance beam combiners from Edmond O. $1,300 for the EMS and $1,000 for the case, wiring, P.S.'s, fans, etc and there you have it.

Why I think it is fun and useful, to build these, is that as new technology emerges such as a better diode or a better scanner you can easily retrofit this into an existing projector yourself. Or if you want to make a significant change, say a moderate power yellow OPSL became available as well as a better scanner then you are able to extract what you want from projector #1 and incorporate it into projector # 2.

Because there are only say a dozen or so separate components in a typical projector merely bolting these to a base plate and wiring up the power supplies is so simple it shouldn't be an issue. Where the savings and the reward comes from IS the modules. They are not hard either, but because there are so many ways you can set them up (successfully) you have to think about how you want to do it. Using components such as Dave's flex mounts and diode holders nearly eliminates the need to fabricate and I would pay the premium for optics from Thorlabs or Edmond when possible as it eliminates the hassles of a search and designing around one off or low quality parts.

One major disadvantage that Kavant suffers (that I am sure of) is that they have to run their modules conservatively because they can't be replacing their diodes without a major component extraction on the part of the owner, shipping, replacement, shipping, etc. Therefore, for a given output they need more diodes (itself somewhat of a risk of failure and misalignment). So, fatter beams and therefore slower scanning, but if you can pop open the case and replace a 2W, $45, M 445 diode or a 2.5W,$90, 9mm 445 diode and dial in the alignment in your shop that is hard to beat.

I will have 5 pcs. 445nm diodes good for 500-750mW from the A-130 Kasio
SELEM priced at 27.50$ (discount for more of than one)

I am wanting some FEELER FB about the 2.5W 9mm 445 diodes(with usable STOCK Lens)- as If I get them to bring and I dont sell many (~$90 +/- each) I may have a bit of a cash crunch for paying my lodging bill and travel expenses after the LSO. if I do this there will be 12ocs. with me i the BS&T room.

I am willing to sell all 12- to one buyer if you guys want to pool and buy the 12 still in the Heatsink array.

OR if I can find a good deal on a Kasio XJA- 140 I could be bringing($40) 24 of those instead of the 9mm version. I can get copper diode holders(AixiZ blank modules) from AixiZ as well as 5.6 & 3.8mm--
It is possible that i *MAY* be able to grab few 520mW low power modules- just add ~3vdc ti the red and black wires and instant Very Stable11mW of green - great beam profile- looks as bright by eye as 50mW of 532. PM me on these and by then i should know if they came in and the SELEM pricing. The sample I saw was in a ~12x40mm module (brass like we see for the 532modules.
    At AixiZLaser dotcom
You can window shop- make a list for me and I will drop in on Dr Chuck on my way to Dallas & my carpool-They also have >100 items at EEKbay- if you need an item that is not free shipping,,,, at the VERY least the price will be lower for hand delivery- Cash is King but For some attendees I will be happy to take your check- or we can work something out for your CCards.
If you have plans to make a nice Lumia PJ (all ttl)and may want it to be portable AixiZ has several matching modules all need 12vdc- I will bring my personal @ 405 and 638 to demo in the BS &T room- The beam specs look good and my 638 was over spec with IIRC a stable peak of 230mW(the 180mW version)- you can see these at AixiZ store etc the drivers are not enclosed and can be stacked for a smaller footprint. AixiZ has the best policy when it comes to returns- these are in stock R- G(532) B (445) and Br/V405-

I will need your(NON BINDING) shopping list before Aug 11- & sooner would be better.

AixiZ deserves our biz- they are big sponsors of ILDA-(more than just corp. level)

And every year I have done SELEM ~$1000 in donated Door Prizes- So far this year I will be bringing from AixiZ one each QS FB 3 2.0- Two ttl lab lasers 445 & 532 and more.

I will have one or more QS with me FS so if you really want one let me know & I will bring more.

    Other items FS

Garmin etrex GPS- a must-have item for a working LSO -($50)-IIRC show plan requires long/lat numbers and direction to airports and Heli pads ETC. for outdoor shows.

Lumia kits w/ 1/3 rpm AC motor- cord- bracket - one lumia ' granite glass 'Bulb' ready to attach (no tools or glue/JB weld- needed-compression fitted)

On my BS&T table (for another member) there will be (AFAIK) two green HeNes and one yellow $$ TBA at SELEM.

When there ask me to show you the speaker stands(HD tripod style) I altered/modded for PJ stands with a price that cannot be beaten. The 1/4tn. Al plate will be custom cut to fit your needs. No welding on these.

See me also if you need a nice item to bring back home for the wifey or kiddos.
I am also open to trade...............hak

If anyone has a spectrometer, and 445 diodes, I will pay a very pretty penny for a tested diode 455-460nm, or <510nm.

Also always hunting interesting gas, if you have something you're willing to lug out, that you thing is worth something, PM me, we can probably work something out.

I have 4 that I need tested.. I hope that's not too much.

Also, if anyone has a lot of 445 diodes on them, like I said, pretty penny. I'm fully comfortable paying >$150 for a 460nm diode, $100 for a 455.

Hmm. That's interesting. What output and how old?

and I will have my lab master with various heads from 10-100W IIRC

dunno, maybe 3 years? probably two hundred hours on it or so... it was a 1W doing 1.5 or so... it just dies constantly... I can keep it running fairly consistently if I set my software to like 75% on green... I would replace it but meh
