    Default Pangolin Beyond feature bug?

    Good Morning,
I recently switched from Quickshow to Beyond Ultimate.
There was an effect I loved to use in quick show that will not work in beyond.
I could use master pause, to pause any cue I liked. I could then use the QuickFX section to manipulate that paused image. I.e. pause a cue, the select the flash FX to flash the paused image, then select strobe to strobe that same image until the point in the music came to un pause and continue that cue's animation while strobing. (Great for dance music builds/drops)

In beyond if I select any QuickFX like described above, output will stop and the image in the preview window will go blank.

    Please help.

Any ideas what could cause this? Or does beyonds pause feature just pause everything and I can't change that?

I believe you can pause separate elements in Beyond, not just the master.
Check out the live control or cue control options. Pangoscript commands generally gives you the best indication of what is possible in Beyond, even if you don't ultimately use PS to achieve it. If I want to know if I can do something, PS is usually my first 'go to' place.

Of course, the best way to find out is to drop Bill a line by email, you'll get a quick response usually, and direct from the horses mouth.

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

I ran your sequence in QS and it works for me also.

In Beyond, pause is currently broken for refresh based cues due to an incompatability (it still works for time based). It sounds like your build was pre this break so its impossible to guess if it will work now. However, Alexey has a fix for the broken pause and this will be out probably in the next build. The only thing is to re-test your sequence after this.

I agree with Norty that for complex effects like this, Pangoscript is the way to go as you can achieve all your sequence of effects in a single control simply by using scripting. As I don't personally have any need to use scripting, I'm sure Norty can give you a far better guide to its detailed execution than myself if you ask.

    Thanks guys!
    Ill look into pangoscript.
I've only had beyond for a week now and scripting does sound interesting.
I'm a former dj so I love playing my laser "sets" live Via MIDI. I was so disappointed when I couldn't use the effects while paused. Really makes for a less dramatic show IMO.

Just curious which build of beyond do you have? I could just find and install a build that works for the time being? (I have a show this weekend)

I don't think the latest build is public - many of us on here test for fun and so have beta test builds + like I said the whole pause system both master and cue, does not work at all, with any refresh based cue in the latest beta build. Time based cues are unaffected.

Best advice is wait for next public build where the pause bug been fixed.

If you need something for the weekend, talk to Pangolin directly as they are the best ones who can direct you towards an older build where the pause currently works although whether or not it will work as in QS I don't know as like I said its a compatibility thing - Beyond is very different now to QS due to the underlying more complex timeline system.

My inclination is if you have a build where everything works fine apart from the pause combination, then stick with that as although Beyond generally is very good bug wise, I personally wouldn't want to do a show with a build that's an unknown quantity. Better the build you know than the build you don't. If you wanted to try the pause combination in your current build where it doesn't work manually, then script it and see if it works in advance using scripting. Again Norty or others can advise you better in the scripting / midi / DMX area.

    Well damn.
I was considering go back to QS for this show... But QS doesn't have even close to the midi control beyond does. Guess ill be using the ol' manual strobe *holds finger up*
