Default YouTube Video's -iMac downloading help

    Hi all

So, my wife has asked if I can put together a short pop compilation video for an upcoming private social evening.

This has to be pop video's of classic 'disco ish' bands from the 60's, 70's and 80's... Act's such as 'Blondie', Boney M, Bee Gees etc etc.

I have downloaded 'MacX YouTube Downloader' for my iMac and this seems to download some YouTube clips fine. However, there are certain videos it just doesn't want to download. I'm assuming that these clips are probably copy protected in some way.

Take this one for instance... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGU_4-5RaxU (Blondie, heart of glass)

The downloader program refuses to download it. Is there another program for the Mac out there that will circumvent whatever it is that's stopping this downloading?

If I was going to use this for a commercial project i'd happily buy all the videos, but it's only for a small private event at home that my wife has cooked up.

    Any thoughts?

Can you get at your browser's cached files? What I do when I want to save a video is open the files cache, and when the video starts playing I delete every cached file, except the one that will not delete because it's in use. That will be your video.. Now, set a read-only attribute on it. As it's already open it will still get written to, but when it is closed it cannot be written; OR DELETED! This is useful because some tools will delete the cached file as soon as it has arrived and followed the rest of itself into RAM for playback. Many times the file will sit nicely in the cache waiting for collection later, but don't count on it. Just finding it can be tough if you watched a few things, lot of big files with cryptic names... The method I describe is pretty much guaranteed, because the only way it can fail is if the system never lets you see the whole thing in the first place. Once saved where you want it, rename as Something.flv or .mp4 because it's usually one or the other and most players that play them don't care which file extension they see so long as they recognise it at all.

Technically the MPAA might want to make you their bitch for this, but unless you start redistributing it's not cost effective for them to go after you. And home taping never killed music, did it?

    Thanks Keith

I fired up my old Win XP laptop and downloaded Mozilla and the video download plugin, not sure it's the correct plugin though as it has a different version number. Do you have a URL or a better description for the plugin?

I tried the Firefox plugin (as above) and all it does is copy the advert at the beginning of the Blondie video.

Doc: Thanks for the tip, but it's a lot of messing about, much better if I can do it successfully via a plugin or similar. If all else fails i'll try your method, but looking in the cache it's a real mess in there!
