Default ishow 25pin cable hot when in use, Short?

I'm newbie to laser programming, I am just messing around atm and bought the dreaded ishow 2.3 just to get a feel for using the laser.
    I currently have 3 lasers,
a green jaycar brand power unknown , ilda. Dmx
    A blue 400mw Dmx only
    A Rgb 800mw, 300mw, 1000mw, ilda and Dmx. 30kps

After first using the ishow software I see what it does or dosent.

But the 25 pin cable from the dac to the laser after a few minutes use was very hot, on the rgb and when I used it on the jaycar brand the fuse blew.

The pcb of the dac is clean with good solder joints but I'm wondering what the issue could be faulty dac or cable?

Looking forward to new steep learning curve.

Welcome to PL. My first suspect would be a mis-wired projector. Pin 25 on the DB is signal ground per the ILDA standard. Usually a hot cable would point to a mains wiring issue, in which case, I urge you to take care with safety.

My first guess would be mains to PC grounding issues. Ie current flowed on 25 through the Ishow body down the USB to the PC ground.

After that it gets sticky to diagnose.

Do you have access to a oscilloscope?

Nothing else should approach a level to heat a cable, unless something is really, really, wrong.

Jaycar suggests your a Aussie or Kiwi, so where are you located? You may find some one from PL is close by. This is where filing out the profile helps.

Thanks ive been reading for a few months now

2 Mis-wired projectors? as the RGB one got hot and the green only the fuse (in the laser) blew after a few seconds.

I was also thinking a grounding issue. im going to try another Cable.

im filling the profile as we speak

Maybe a ground loop. Make sure all things are plugged into the same outlet?

Hahaha no I have solved the problem, solution older 25pin cable from the dumpshop of all places,

I put it down to the Cheap ass, ultra thin Chinese cable that came with the ishow. works on both the lasers, very happy now i can play.

throwing the other one in the bin. I think i'll be staying away from those type of cables.

Thankyou for your help guys i will be on here alot more reading up
