I'm not familiar with the QM components, but could it be that the QM serialno. is stored in the clock chip ?
As these devices sometimes contain some nv-ram, such as the DS1338.
So the defect clock-chip might not be an 'accident' ?
Sheeet... I could only guess that its violating Terms Of Conditions of Hardware use

Andy, it would be nice to know the serial number of that board, least it shows up on Ebay.
Bart,
Serial number is probably not in the clock ram, more likely in a secure and custom FPGA. I'd bet there is storage for tamper events, which would probably show as a CRC fail logged on booting the card. I'm not peeling the hologram off the FPGA to find out, the card is just too valuable to mess with.

I should have rented the space under my name for advertising.
When I still could have...
The OP for this thread is clearly inappropriate and this is obvious to anyone who follows it through to this point, however, it currently stands with an unfair title and I would suggest that this be amended or footnoted. This young gentleman is clearly not an "ethical" student, yet might be learning the consequences of this bad behavior. One can hope. I disagree with deleting or altering the body of this thread as it raises issues that are in the public interest, but I would be furious if I had been on the receiving end of this smear.
I think a lesson in ESD precautions could be learnt here too. 30 minutes of rubbing with a dry cloth would generate enough static to hold the board to the wall!
I hope this thread serves some positive outcome.
I wouldn't doubt it. Also bent memory socket pins... something either got zapped or shorted out. It wouldn't surprise me if shorted memory pins fried it because I have seen bad RAM take out a memory channel on a mobo before.

Hi Planters; I think the thread should be kept alive for reference as a story that might help prevent further attempts to con people but of course with my name and member name removed from the title and OP but that means everyone who also wrote my name would also have to edit the comments too and I think some members are quite happy that I am named in this. One never knows.
The thing is to keep PL correct the thread should be removed or moved because as it stands it contravenes the Review posting rules.

Hi Planters
The post you made, who were the comments directed to,Me or Andy?
I came into this post offering a solution, with my own personal reasons without gain.
Yes, you were right for highlighting that.
