    Oh holy crap!

Well, at least you have the images as actual 3D format!

The problem is that I tried to re-optimize them. The lines are so squiggly there are tons of angles in there that cause the optimizer to add dwell points. So you end up with that mess.

Try minimizing the files. Then check your settings in the [Tab] menu. when you go into menu h you can choose to apply only some of the individual parts of the whole optimization process. Look at adding span points along lit and blank lines.

    That should get you somewhere.

So how did you get the files to become 3d images? U never said... Or are you still working on a way to improve the process? I bet the Viking ship would optimize better...

I had to realign the Dilithium crystals in the warp core. The radiation in there is far to high to risk exposure.

I think I get what the issue is all about. Not quite sure how I am going to fix it. But I'm on it.

I just think it's so weird that this issue has never been exposed before this.

If I don't come out with a new release very soon, I will post the quickest way to do it with the current version.

OK. It might be a minute or two before I put out a new release so here is what I found.

It looks like if a frame comes in via an ILDA file import and it is format 1, 2D, then that format spec sticks no matter what.

I need to put into the code that every time something happens to a frame that might change its status from 2D to 3D it needs to check and make the appropriate change to the format tag of the frame. That should be fairly easy.....

Anyway, in the mean time, I found a way to do this "manually" in the program.

If you create a new empty frame, it is assumed to be 3D before you put anything into it. So all you need to do is create a new frame, select the new (empty) frame and the frame you want to promote to 3D and merge the two frames together. This will create yet another new frame to contain the sum of the other two and destroy the two original frames.

    Open your frame in LaserBoy.

Go into menu j and hit the digit 8 key. This creates an empty frame at the beginning of the frame set. If you only had one frame loaded before you did this, you will now have two frames. The empty frame will be right before your 2D frame.

Actually it won't be entirely empty. There will be two vertices at the origin that form a blank vector that has no magnitude.

You can eliminate this by going back to the main menu and going into the draw, color blank vertices menu k. In there, just tap the [Backspace] key and they will be removed.

Go back to main and go back into menu j.

Use the space bar to select each frame. You can tell a frame is selected when the 2D/3D frame number stats on the right side change to a dark red background.

Now with both your frame and the empty frame selected and still in menu j, use the < key to merge those frames together.

Notice that the stats on the side bar indicate that the frame is 3D.

Now if you try to save this, it will figure out that it really is 2D (since you haven't done anything to change it yet) and you would end up with a format 1 again.

So, here's another way to move your image into the third dimension.

[esc] out of menu j back to the main menu and go into menu l (L).

Select all of the vertices in the frame. Place the egg on the zeroth vertex by tapping the \ (backslash) key and place the spider on the last vertex by tapping the | (pipe, shift of the backslash) key.

Now that all of the image is selected you can move it forward on the Z axis by tapping the z key. Z (upper case) moves it backwards.

If you press and hold the digit 4 you can orbit your view and see that you are moving away from zero Z.

Tap the 5 key to go back to looking at the front of the image.

Any amount of displacement away from zero Z will differentiate this image from being a 2D frame.

[esc] out of menu l (L) and save the frame as usual.

Wow. That actually worked... The image is being reported as ild format 0 AND a 3d image!!!

Now to see if it works in the 'spence... The image still has around 5000 points in it, so I may need to reduce that somewhat...

Okay, points DEFINITELY need to be reduced, lol... The 'spence is rotating through the points, so yeah I need to work on reducing the point count on these images!! EVen at 1500 points for some of the more complex moving images (and this is a stationary one with over 5000 points), the 'spence has a bit of trouble with them...

One part down, one more part to go!

I like the bmp2ild thing, gotta figure out how to reduce points... Any tips?

Okay, so with bmp2ild, you can set the pixel to point ratio, but you need to do it BEFORE you start "outlining" the image... The default is 1, which is WAAAAY too small if you're going for a low point count... Then again, it depends on how complex the image you're trying to draw...

The Helix logo, I actually got it to under 1000 points, never even showed up. Dropped it even further, to under 500 and only half the image comes up in the projector (YES, I DID convert it to a 3d image first lol). The Venom logo, surprisingly, was a bit over 2000 points, in a green color no less, and it flickered, but I got it to show (setting the "refresh rate" in the prg file at 20 or 25 I forget which...) The Viking ship? Got it to around 1000 points, mainly because anything less and the circles didn't come out well... So you kinda see the ship, but you also see these "connect" lines, which I gathered was the order in which I "made the points" (IE I went from the outside left of the ship, to the middle, up to the mast and flag and back to the other side...)...

So I think, yeah, maybe I'm ready to learn how to draw or "trace" over with Laser Boy... I can't freehand draw for shit, so "tracing" sounds good...

One other thing: I heard that the newer version of the Spencer laser projectors show files a lot better.... I am seemingly unable to replace the violet laser in the old one, so I am thinking of just buying a new unit (as in new version as well)... I talked to an electronics shop who wanted to charge me $95 to swap out the diode...

I just hate to lose those old patterns housed in the Spencer old version model... That and the seeming inability to read just any SD card...
