Default Spec, BOTNET LIKE ZOMBIE HUMANS ARE ATTACKING PL, er spamming...

I felt the need for some drama in the title. Drama over, onto the spam.

Some one in China is paying humans to set there and gain access to forums, set up a profile, then selling the passwords.

This thread is one, if you click on Catherin Brown's profile on the GPS thread, it takes you to a GPS jammer company.

    Talk about your necroposting....

    There are others.

I guess it's all the fault of us in that thread mentioning Venom. Raise the dead and suchlike. Talking of the necroposting, I did see a couple. It's weird how much more attention they take to the subject these days to appear like real posters instead of an 'insert user string here' content mill. I doubt it will be a cost-effective method though. Try that hard, and there comes a point where it's more profitable to actually become what you imitate!

Is there any way Spec can give a few trusted users some moderator controls? Locking threads or something to kill some of the spam threads that are popping up?

There have been a number of these posts lately. New users with just one or two posts, always something complimentary, yet not really on-topic. Maybe a spam-bot? Dunno, but I've been reporting them to Spec as well.

Yeah we used to get these on the other forum. The spambot found a way to create the account, and shortly after the spam appeared. Like someone said earlier, they are probably selling open accounts. They are easy to spot.
