Looking forward to seeing the gang again!
    Hi Karl

I'll bring the EntTec, it works fine with QS and Beyond. The DMX tranceivers use 2.4Ghz WiFi I believe. Let me know if that's the same as W-DMX as I haven't a clue what that is

    Cheers

Only if you bring enough sparklers for everyone

OK - I gotta ask... What's the deal with Chinese lanterns? Did something bad happen once upon a time? Or am I thinking of something else?

To me a Chinese lantern is a paper bag with a candle suspended inside it that floats away once the candle heats the air inside the bag. Not sure why you'd want those at a laser meet, but not really sure why they'd be banned either. (Unless there was a fire once.?.)

    So what's the story guys?

there is no story, jims just gay. ( you should see his chav ride) ;-)

there have been loads of reports over the past few years saying Chinese lanterns have caused many fires, so now people don't like them.

jim also doesn't like fireworks cos someone at the meet blew a pipe up by putting a fire work in it

    Not an incident,
But at one of the first Surfleets, I brought a load, set some off, and one got stuck in a tree way down the other end of the field. It fell and started a really really small fire. A bit of stomping on it later, all good...
But I think the main reason is the widespread news reports of them trashing all sorts of things.

I still think banning mills, (CNC or otherwise) is way way unfair and crossing the line.
I might just bring a big bag of swarf, and distribute it around on the floor under my camp bed like hay.

D'oh! I should have known better than to ask a question I didn't want to know the answer to...

there have been loads of reports over the past few years saying Chinese lanterns have caused many fires, so now people don't like them.
OK, I can sort of see that, but surely no one has actually started a fire at a UKLEM with Chinese lanterns, right? (I mean, starting fires with a laserscope is cool, but starting fires with a Chinese lantern just seems kinda lame...)

jim also doesn't like fireworks cos someone at the meet blew a pipe up by putting a fire work in it
I once blew up a bread loaf pan by putting a mortar shell in it... Video proof:

Then again, that was in my own yard, not at a LEM...
