I have a friend at the other forum who has done a few group Buys for black Ts with GITD print on the front and back- he has found one to the better sellers with the best GITD- that glows brighter and lasts longer.

My personal approach to finding a place down here was to contact realtors whose phone number I got from For Sale or Rent signs- in buildings located where we would not bother anyone with our very loud music-that had high ceilings.

One where it would be ours 24hrs each day. keys early Thursday and return the keys and get back a the deposit Monday noon. i told them i had 'people' looking (in no hurry) For a place to buy. And they would be coming down one or more days to meet there- not all the same day. Check it out and see if it may be what we are looking for. Now this is not 100% true of course but stranger things have happened. If I hit the big lottery a building where i could store my new bigboy toys would be on my list of stuff to buy. I had to spend a few hours cleaning that place up- It was much cleaner while i left it . ATM I did not have any 'real' projectors- but did have some labbies for my Mirror ball- So it was hung (motorized) and we had some very nice RGB Rain.
We used a cheap Spencers fogger. We put up a few bounce mirrors. on one wall we hung a 25X25 white projection screen. We hung some huge window sheers for a low cost Scrim. And Jonathon 'Platinum' and Adam '300EVIL' (& his dad) were doing non laser work in Houston(Katy) So they met Honathon at the Airport
an d arrived right around dark on Sat. I had a a few friend come Friday night to set up my sound system (from my home- no a 'real' DJ system but good enough- (18' self powered CV woofer and 4 CV speakers)
My BBQ team lent us tables and chairs- i grabbed an OK sofa from a thrift shop for little and covered it with blankets- ( this was around this time of Dec. 2010) we had access to a working bathroom- the building had a huge door(electric) so we could actually drive inside to load and unload- there was a liquor store next door and we had pizza delivered. The building was rented to us for $150. w/a $200 deposit.

a few months later the place got either sold or rented as its in use now. hak

    Hak,

I think you were very lucky to find a place where you could do the LEM. I'm sure that they are out there, but I would think that most places that are vacant or up for sale would not go for this - too many legal issues, liability, etc., whereas locations that are rented out on a regular basis are going to be more accessible.

    TRUE ,, Extremely LUCKY-
I did know the realtor handling the property and I had been a volunteer(10yrs) at the SPCA thrift shop located at the same property-- Had he not known me --who knows?? I did not need to provide any kind of insurance waiver to get this place but assured him it would be a VERY small number of ADULTs and that safety was and always will be Number One.-- I can only assume he passed some of our 150$ on to the actual owner-
While I had the key i DID show the place to a few local friends who someday could be looking to rent or buy such a building. I asked them if four friends with lots of Man Toys could divide the building up equally and split the rent or mortgage== Most said possibly but none hit the lottery so...

The only problem was a lack of bathrooms- we solved that by getting the key to a small office space also on the same property with back doors just 12 feet apart- I had to perform a few plumbing fixes to stop the leaks.
No big deal- so they made 150$ they would not have otherwise and i fixed the crapper and the place was significantly cleaner when we returned the keys on Monday 5PM win win

we had a really good time Adam and Jonathon entertained all 12 of us until ~4AM--

I give credit to the good time to these two gents--

I know this thread is over a month old now, but just wanted to chime in. I'm Gadget from "the other laser forum".

I'm in for a TEXLEM 2014!!!! If this comes together it'll be my first time, so y'all be gentle!

So what's the status on a venue?
I'm with Hak on leaving any venue I use, for anything, cleaner and in better shape than it was when I arrived.
I'm also a State of Texas licensed electrician, License No. 203461 (commercial and industrial, I prefer to stay away from residential but favors are not out of the question). Been doin' it since I was 16, so any power issues are not a factor! I also have access to many portable generators, and I'm not opposed to a bit of manual labor to get the things I want, so LET'S MAKE THIS HAPPEN!

I'm afraid, though, that I wouldn't be much help on the real estate front for anything out of town, but something local to DFW might not be impossible. And having Fire Alarm systems put into test for a day or two shouldn't be much of an obstacle, either (here in town, at least).

Let's get this thread rollin' again!

If you can find a Dallas area venue before June I can probably still make it, I have lots of stuff that could find new homes...
