suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.
Brad-
I really took offense when I read this comment by you. As ILDA Awards Chairman, I go to great lengths to be sure that the judges are completely on their own when judging. In fact, this year, I was so "hands off" that I did not even see the judging results until I got to the conference in Germany. There is absolutely no way that anyone except Patrick Murphy can tamper with the results once they are in, and Patrick has no vested interest in anyone winning. We absolutely can have a young talented individual win first place and are delighted if that were to happen, and I think that it actually did happen in the beam category.
It took me over 20 of hard work and creativity entering the ILDA Awards to finally win a First Place ILDA Award. There is no ILDA good old boy network that influences the placement of Awards so please stop comments like this, it demeans the hard work of us all.

As I wrote many times before, I do not come to PL very often. Last time was around 3 weeks ago. I am constantly available through other modalities, such as telephone, email, Skype, Instant Messenger, etc. So if there is a problem or someone "waiting" for something, you know where to find me and how to get in touch with me.
With that having been said, we did alert the media of the mistake immediately. Then, over the following few days, I did an official count of the awards. The official tally can be found here:
http://www.pangolin.com/Awards.html#...istic%20Awards
After the official tally had been completed, our PR agency put out another press release with the final and official tally, and a further public apology for the mistake. The press release itself can be found here:
http://www.prlog.org/12254289-pangol...ievements.html
It was picked up by Live Design as can be seen here:
http://livedesignonline.com/pangolin...achievements-1
It may have also been picked up by other news outlets as well.
Basically I feel that we have done everything that we really can, and as quickly as we really could. If you look at the dates, you'll see that all of this took place weeks ago.
Best regards,
William Benner

Tim,
First and foremost, I apologize if you were offended by my comment. I stumbled across this at about 2:30am this morning and gave it some thought before posting a reply. I also re-watched all three winning submissions. I'll admit I probably should not have typed my immediate reaction and given it some more consideration prior to posting. Art is in the eyes of the beholder so I'll not comment on that further other than to say, I think Chris's overall work with LSX is breaking some new ground and seems fresher and more original whereas Mike's, while also excellent, seemed to me to be similar to works I've seen before.
I guess that can be likened to art in the printed form where you often look at the piece and know who the artist is before the name being revealed. You look at Monet and know it's Monet... that sort of thing. I guess perhaps I felt at the time that "new" should translate to "better". But again, it's in the eyes of the beholder and, I'm satisfied with the placement. (Looking forward to next year though!)
I think the real issue was my comment regarding the potential integrity of the judging being skewed by the submitter and that, I admit, was wrong. I don't know the criteria upon what they've been instructed to judge or what information they are given about a particular show or submission and made an assumption out of ignorance so, I'll apologize again for that.
As far as the "good ole boy network that is ILDA" comment, that probably didn't belong in this thread. I'm relatively new in the laser game and don't have as much familiarity with ILDA as the many other senior members but, it's no great secret that many people have that same perception, as that's all I've ever heard about the organization. I pay my dues and have been a member for a few years (and will continue to be) because it's the right thing to do but, I have my issues... which have been discussed in other, more appropriate threads. I intend to attend this years conference and hope that following that, some of those perceived issues will disappear.
Sorry again!

Good reply Brad--
And although I do not know Tim all that well I have seen and talked to him enough to get the feel that he is a very honest guy- and fair too. -- Chris' losing to Mike is nothing to be ashamed about- Both are a-one people -- in my book. Both winners.

Frankly, I'm amazed and hughly gratified to even be noticed by the incredibly talented and amazing artists that make up the ilda awards competition.
I have no budget and no staff and am using homemade projectors and software and hardware created by photonlexicon members.... And having a blast with it.
I will never feel bad about placing behind Mike, or Tim, or Kyle, or Olga, or any of the other groundbreaking artists in the laser show community.
Remember, I'm just the new guy and these artists have been doing shows for years and years.
I appreciate the support and the PL community rallying behind me, but in no way do I feel slighted or a victim of any conspiracy.
Plus... I have lots of great new stuff on tap.![]()
