Default WANTED: Siemens LGK7626 HeNe Power Supply (PSU Ref: LGN 7469)

    Hi all

    Can anyone help me?

I could do with a Siemens LGK 7626 HeNe Laser Power Supply.

The reference number on the power supply is LGN 7469

    It's a dual input 110v/220v 0.6/0.3 A and Outputs 4,3 - 5,3 Kv 11ma

I have the laser and PSU here and it appears the PSU is duff. Problem is that i'm not sure there isn't something wrong with the head as well. Last time it was working it was reported to be very low power. I do believe this is indicative that the tube is at end of life in this particular laser, they seem to be well known for it. Before I resign it to 'bin fodder' i'd like to get hold of a working PSU and try to fire up the head.

As you've probably grasped by now, I don't want to pay much for the PSU just in case the head is at end of life. So, if you have one of these PSU's laying around that you'd be prepared to part with cheaply please give me a shout.

    Many thanks

    Jem

    Hi Jem,
Is the tube bore clean, no brown gunk? These are hard sealed so it is mainly hours that kill them. You can use a Spectra Physics supply but the HV and ground are backwards even though it is the same plug so use care to make sure HV and ground on any 11-12 mA brick you find used.

4-5kV? I thought most HeNe were around 2kV.

This is a *big ish* HeNe, used for holography, about three feet long, and it weighs a ton!

Thanks for the info Phil. I've had the lid off and the bore looks reasonable although there is a little discolouration. From previous things i've read about this particular model of HeNe, it would appear that they pretty much all end up being low power for one reason or another. I suspect this is no different, I guess it's just had its time. I figured if I could find a cheap power supply it may have been worth a shot...

Before taking the plunge on a new PSU I'd see if you can find someone local with an Oudin Coil to check the tube first. If you get good output a little diligence on ebay might find you a cheap PSU.

If there is only a little brown discoloration the laser is probably capable of over 20 mW maybe nearly 30 mW. These heads don't have quite the power of a fresh Spectra Physics 127/907 or a Melles Griot 927/928, the model with an S after it is rated 30 mW and the best label I have seen is 35 mW actual when new. Borrow a power supply from someone eventually and test it. Let it warm up near an hour and use the little hex mirror tweakers on each end. Coarse alignment should never be needed unless someone...messed with it Make sure ground is ground or you will light up also. I have I think 4 of thee heads...21, 22, 28 and 30+ mW. The two low ones would be over 25 mW with window cleaning. Siemens glues the hell out of the Brewster window seal rubber with RTV silicone. The best idea I have is to slit it open, clean the window with Q tips and then re-seal. They did not expect the tubes to be around 20 years later so that the windows would need re-cleaning. These are nice holography lasers. I am only asking $750 each for the lower power ones and $1K for the 28 mW one...but overseas shipping is high. A great laser for someone in the USA...several available but we are short power bricks also. I have one 240V Siemens power supply for these from the OEM machine. I bet it weighs 25 lbs! It is a discrete supply with a transformer and badass. I have not even messed with that monster; it WILL kill a fellow.

It's O.K., I know the tube is gas intact, up to a few months ago it was working in a holography Lab. Then something happened, it stopped working and now I have it. It appears to be the power supply that is at fault. I think that one possibility is that when someone looked it over (perhaps a general electrician with no knowledge of this type of thing) they fed the supply 240v when it was set for 110v input. The external fuse that had been put there to protect the supply was blown when I received it. I reinstated the fuse and tried to power it up with 110v, it didn't work. I then swapped the supply over to the 240v wiring and tried again but this time with 240v input. I fear that whatever's happened it's fried the power supply

All duly noted Phil, and thanks again for the information If you ever get a spare PSU give me a shout.

    Cheers

The reason power supplies are scarce is that the laser tubes out last them.

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.
