I thought they had the Transcoder units made custom for them? Why would they not be available anymore?

are you talking about the ravens? they still take light pipe in... most (if not all?) of the interfaces they were using for light pipe are NLA

was kind of silly to use lightpipe a decade or so after ADAT was basically dead

look I thought I'd offer a little balance to this thread.

The software is NOT complete at this point and lacks a timeline. It has a learning curve that is both simple and complex. You can patch anything you want fast but to make stellar patches takes a master. It is like giving someone a canvas and saying paint some xyz masterpiece. I've played with it and you can have a lot of fun but when it comes time to use what you make you have to dump it to adat and then bring it back in so it is at this time not the best productivity tool. There are other tools out there now that can do enough with better workflow that what you might miss in flexibility is made up in reality since you can use what you make easily in the other tools. I had high hopes of them finishing the product and making something generally useful but I don't see it at this point.

If you really want to make extraordinary abstracts don't blame your tools. Anyone can buy a guitar but there is only one slash. You can however get better and that is what I am doing now. For now I'm focusing on Beyond. I have not spent enough time with it yet to make an informed comment but it looks robust. LSX is well LSX. IF you can master it like swami you get nice stuff but it is a really steep learning curve and you only have Andrew as a support. If it were not for the chat I would never even figured out how to add an audio file.

So hear me correctly before you flame me. BEYOND, LSX, Digisynth all have there place and each one is different from the other. You can't say one is better than the other as each one has its uses. There is a 99.99% cross over in what they can do in terms of abstracts. Where they differ is in how hard they are to learn AND support and development. Love you Andrew but you are one person. Love you Matt and Chuck but your interest in finishing Digisynth is waning with time. Bill is eager and trying to move his product forward and has a complete support system so based on that alone Beyond moves ahead of the pack. So I'll spend my learning time on Beyond. Digisynth is a ground breaking product that unfortunately may never reach its potential but is way cool. LSX as swami has shown is really capable as well and is useable now if you spend the time to learn it. Beyond continues to evolve and has the largest user base. I expect it to be here in ten years.

Ok now that I've pissed everyone off go play and make your own choices. With inexpensive projectors coming on line and software everyone can afford and dacs everyone can afford expect there to be innovation. Let's see what you can do. I for one am going with the proven horse first then back to LSX. I hold no hope of a finished digisynth at this point but you never know.
Maybe writing this will get some action.....

Lightpipe is great and I use a transcoder. Unfortunately the chips are not made anymore from what I hear. The transcoder is a really nice device and I use it everyday but there are lots of dacs out there now. Between my ld2000 card and the transcoder I can do just about anything. Just cuz its older tech doesn't make it bad tech.

    maybe the old fashioned way?

play abstract, hit record on adat, hit pause, play next abstract, continue recording, etc

I have made shows this way back in the day... was not fun!!!
