I think you just left your GoPro camera stationary during Bill's talk whereas I hand held mine and was able to zoom in/out on Bill, his laptop, the laser and screen so, before you go to the hassle of uploading you might want to preview the one I hope to post here once it's finished. There has got to be a better way of doing this. I can't believe everyone that uploads clips to Youtube has to go through all this. And my videos always seem to look worse once they're on Youtube. I understand there is going to be some loss but, a ot of other videos always look sharper than mine. I don't do it enought to really invest a lot of time and energy into it but, if it were easier/faster to do, I'd probably upload a lot more videos here to PL than I do.

The problem with uploading files directly from the GoPro to Youtube is the massive file size. That 6 minute video above (the emulaser demo) was nearly half a gigabyte. That takes a while to upload! (Took me 30 minutes on a cable modem.) And remember that the GoPro already used the H.264 encoding on it. (Would be much larger in raw format.)

Some high-def cameras create even larger files than the GoPro does, due to higher resolutions and/or different compression schemes. In that case, it makes sense to re-compress the video first, to save on upload time.

Then too, Bill's presentation on the new scanners was over an hour long in total. Even with the GoPro's H.264 encoding, it will take me several hours to upload the whole video to Youtube if I don't re-compress it first. (Which is why it hasn't been uploaded yet.)

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

    Brad:

I just checked the Cannon website, and you camera also supports H.264. So as Chris mentioned, you can upload the H.264 files directly to Youtube, but they're going to be huge! It will take hours to upload. But you can also set it and forget it, which might work out better for you.

I won't be able to think about uploading anything until very late tonight, or more probably tomorrow, so yeah - I'll check out your video first.

Actually, it's in a file format called .MTS so, a file may be called 00029.MTS

There is also a way in the camera itself (and this may be how it supports H.264) where you put two memory cards in. The one with the video in slot A and the blank one in slot B and it converts it from A to B and ends up uploadable to Youtube.

mts is mpeg4 avc/h.264 (avc). i think you can just directly upload it to youtube.

5% finished. Only about 517 minutes to go according to Youtube! I could drive a DVD to half the PL'ers on the east coast in less time.

Two hours in to the upload and we've hit 37%!
