Default Hard Drive Data Recovery Software....

Does anyone know of a good freeware data recovery software? A couple years ago I accidentally formatted a drive with tons of family pics on it. Just the other day I found a great program that actually dug deep into the drive and recovered most of these pictures!
It's a great program, unfortunately they charge by the MB and to save all these photos and it's going to cost me over $300. While I'd like to just use them and their great software, I just can't afford it at this time. Here is a link to this software for anyone who is interested... https://www.binarybiz.com/vlab/windows.html

If there is a good freeware that will help me out, please let me know!
    Thanks!

    Default Good Timing...

http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk - I actually heard about this one on some random computer show on Saturday driving back from the Trinity Site and VLA... The other one listed was: http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec

    I hope that helps!

Laser (the acronym derived from Light Amplification by Stimulated Emissions of Radiation) is a spectacular manifestation of this process. It is a source which emits a kind of light of unrivaled purity and intensity not found in any of the previously known sources of radiation. - Lasers & Non-Linear Optics, B.B. Laud.

    Hey Guys!
Thanks, but none of these seem to extract what I want. They find nothing the virtual lab program finds.
    Thanks Anyway!

Recuva - a freeware Windows utility to restore files accidentally deleted or lost due to software failure or error. You can use it to scan the user selected media.

After scanning Recuva gives a list of deleted files. Each of these files has its own parameters: name, type, path, the probability of recovery, and the state (overwritten and can not be restored, partially overwritten completely intact).

this is OK for a physically healthy disk, but if the disk is end of life or damaged, just take a binary image as a first step so you're able to recover content by mounting it as an image
