The pins are very tiny and a compression or hydraulic crimper with the proper die is advised.
Steve, what is the proper die? Do you have a link or a name?

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

    Hi Steve,
That would be fantastic, I was thinking last night about how many orders I'd have to place to acquire the connectors and surface mount components, then I'd have to call in a favor and visit a friend's house to use his surface mount solder station because that's not something I have invested in. And I did not even consider the crimping/pin tool necessary. Your talent here would be much appreciated, and if you do decide to do some of this (and I hope you do) I hope you add compensation for your time to the cost. And personally.... I am a patient man and would not expect a fast turn around. And like I mentioned to Bill - I assume no warranty on this sort of thing.

I'd much rather have a 1/2 made in America scanner (even if it costs more in the long run) than purchase an entire scan set from China.

...Oh, and on a personal note I'm glad to hear that the travel has slowed down for you, it is easy to get burned out quickly working on the road. I get crabby nowadays when I spend to much time in airports/hotels/rental cars, etc. etc....

My 506's arrived today (thank you, Bill!) and I was really taken aback at how small they are. Talk about a little footprint. Anyone wanting to build a micro DI PJ should look into these with PT-20 amps. I took a pic next to a single PT40 galvo. Going to hopefully get this projector up by the weekend to start doing some side by side tests with PT40s and DT40s and 506s.

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

    Hi Brian,

Glad you received the package, but are you really patient enough to wait for the weekend before playing with them? I know you're a computer programmer (or IT professional) but are you married or someting?

By the way, the Y scanner is rotated 180 degrees in that picture. The connector should be tucked completely within the package volume. I don't think we shipped it that way, but the document we included with the package tells how to rotate it (also linked from this location: http://www.pangolin.com/_Files/C506_Brief.pdf)

Hey, Bill.... You know me well! I am actually pressing the holes in the baseplate right now! Since my normal bedtime is around 5am PST, I will probably have most of this done by then. In fact, if work is not too busy, I hope to have the whole rig completed by tomorrow night (I need to pick up a DB25 connector in the morning). I am extremely excited to play with this!

About the Y galvo, I had to rotate it but AHA, It must have flipped in shipping. I didn't realize, until reading, that there was no physical stop. Cool, you probably just saved me about 30 minutes of headache!

Yes, even if you flip both mirrors over, they will instantly flip into the correct orientation, the moment you apply power to the servo driver. (It's like magic!)

If you have any trouble give me a call. 1-800-PANGOLIN. I'll be at the office all night and into the morning.

Flippin' heck they are s-m-a-l-l. I now see why the connector needed to be compact!

Yes indeed! It's one of the smallest scanners ever created, and perhaps the lightest. (There is only one company -- in China -- claiming to have produced a smaller scanner having the same weight, but they won't sell me one so I can verify their claims...)
