OK, I and my partner had a talk with our source in China. A pair of amps from us, tuned to our pair of 506 scanners and modified would retail for 110$ + Shipping.
I have to commit a considerable amount of my own cash to do this, so please let me know if your interested. This will not be a group buy, this is retail.

The same amps optimized for the Ebay 6810s or stock 6800HP would be 116.50 for the pair, which is the cost difference of the horribly expensive mating connectors, plus our taking a bit of a loss in the margins..

The initial batch would be in stock delivery from the US, once modified. I am not ordering them piece by piece, but in a batch, and the mods would be done here.

My 506s and the TII have returned from Florida, so hopefully the review can re-commence soon.

am i interested? yes, but a lot depends on the price point of the 506's.

the scanning artifacts in my dt's bug me even if the average viewer would never notice them.

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

back after father in law heart attach (he'll be fine)

506's on way. I have the miniature rgb ready to go. Soon as I have scanners I expects a hand held scanner 200mw! Not bad if you remember air cooled argons and hene's barely did this a few years back.

So Steve, if i am getting this right, the terms of the offer are

110usd plus shipping for the drivers and I have to source the 506s Pango-direct plus do a minimal amount of re-tuning?
THIS is the closest thing I have heard to a complete package, and I am interested

I also hope Bill runs a group buy once his compact driver is out and about

I have the same thought as Swami. The price of mod on amps is good, but until I know how much a pair of 506s will be I am not ready to open the wallet.

Its tempting to do the mod my self since I found the pdf for the component swap but the tuning is not really something I am interested in. At least for my first set.

Steve, have you checked with Phenix to see if they'll sell you just the amps? In very large quantities, they sell PT20 with amps for less than $100 USD.

Do you mind telling us which amps these are (or are clones of)?

Stiffler, I'm sure you'll next make the argument that I should tell you my source. I'm not going to. I've given away much to PL and there are a few things I wish to retain. This is one of them. I'm a believer in Socially Responsible Capitalism. I'm offering a value added service:

    Value Added:
    1. I'm making the cable and testing the cable on a loopback test rig before use.
Cable integrity is very important , if not critical with 506.
    2. Because I will be doing many of these, I can be proficient at tuning them. Tuning is not for everyone.
    3. I've been tuning galvos since 1990, starting with Accelerator 124s
    4. I've been to galvo factory tuning courses, and have a factory internal tuning manual. I know what I'm looking at.
    5. Amps will be tested with a instrumented 6860 or 6810 before connection to 506, there is a good reason for that.
    6. There are two US locations amps can ship from, East Coast and Midwest. That means you have reasonable support.
    7. If a factory fresh pair shows up here, under certain circumstances, the amp will be tuned with matched galvos.
    8. You get a picture emailed to you of the scope rise time and damping trace during tuning.
    9. US Stock, and I speak Midwest English...

It takes considerable work to develop a steady connection in China. We had to find a vendor with a good product and that we have a long term relationship with. I have a pair on my desk and I'm very fond of the tuning range and board quality. The solderability is good, it was a pleasure to modify these. I've already used them with the 6810s and beat the snot out of them, ie firing up with half rails, missing rails, no PSU ground, disconnect-connect feedback and motor coils with power on etc.

These have a 68 watt Overture Series(tm) output stage, and I have the schematics. This is not the old 685X architecture,
    this is 10Kpps faster.

    Steve,

I'm not asking for your source, and frankly I don't care where you get them; I asked which scanners they were. This is a completely relevant question, as there are huge differences between different manufacturers scanner amps, as i'm sure you know. At $110, what you are offering is a steal if they will go 50K, not so much if they max out at 15K.

Obviously I don't think you are trying to sell anyone 15K scanner amps, I'm just trying to get more information about the product you are selling. Regardless, thanks for going through the trouble of bringing these to market.

I didn't even think about the cables that have to be made. I value well made cable at 50% of this cost.

The board mods are super easy. I have been doing SMT rework for years.
The tuning not as easy only because I don't have much experience.
Making cables look nice. I would rather pay someone to deal with the labor involved everytime.

Steve I may be going out on a limb here but are you saying the amps you are sourcing are better than DT40, PT40 amps by 10Kpps?
