    Steve's Notes for Test Pattern:

    Distance, Approximate Projection Width

    100 cm = 14.1 cm width for 8 Degrees
    100 cm = 35.2 cm width for 20 Degrees
    100 cm = 63.1 cm width for 35 Degrees

Numbers are ratios from Pangolin Scan Angle Table.

Installed 360 surface mount components today, will make cables in the morning.
The two size 460 diodes are a real riot to emplace by hand, especially since they are in a different package then the 1n914 SMD diode.
Two leads vs three, and the beam lead package is tough to handle.

However the performance difference between factory diodes and Bill's suggested diodes made this the only possible decision.

All amps modified today tested Ok with actual Galvos and are pre-tuned using the oscilloscope method.

Cables and ILDA pattern tuning now.

BTW, Bill's mirror inertias so closely as to be readily swappable.

Trying to ship before SELEM/Deliver at SELEM.

I'm still a bit behind, and had to take Mom to ER this morning, but am getting there on this project.

After Bill's tuning at SELEM, prototype does 50K pps 8' ILDA TEST PATTERN with my RED BOARDS with the small mirror set.
Bill showed me a few things to look for including how to set the crossover level between HF Damping and LF Damping.
We can finish this up now.

That's awesome! I am definitely getting in line for the next batch of these amps. I'm getting my tent ready... going to camp out on the sidewalk until sunrise.

Still trying to decide between the small mirror set and the next larger size (4mm mirror set?). Have any of the other mirror sizes made it on to the testbench yet? I want to get my order in so I can get in line for those too.

BTW, it was great meeting and working with you Steve, hope to see you again at a LEM in the near future! You really added a tremendous amount to the SELEM experience for many people.

I asked Bill that same question during the weekend, Tribble. The answer he provided was 'there would only be minimal differences in performance that most people wouldn't even see.' Still, I went ahead and ordered my sets with the 3 degree mirrors, but as they are going into single mode projectors, I didn't have a need for the larger mirrors. Still, it'll be nice to see a side-by-side comparison some time in the near future.

That seals the deal; I was leaning in that direction, and hearing someone else say the same about the single-modes is a nice confirmation. I've an email in to Pangolin to place my order.

BTW, thanks for all of your patient mentoring at SELEM. I had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with in the next 11.8 months.

the single mode diode bundle is an *excellent* configuration for a low power living room projector.

i will be dropping a set of 506's into mine asap.

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

It just takes a slot for the mirror to fit through...

And the reason could be to intentionally "decrease" performance of 506 to let a bigger gap between Saturn 1/3/5 series and these "more affordable" scanners ?

When they advertised "till 1 inch mirrors", how do you think they mount these mirrors ? The scanner itself is smaller than that, I guess they have to install the scanners in the mount, and then they set the mirrors. This mean we can't unmount the scanners without dissasemble scanners from mirrors.
Or... the design of this specific mount is maybe different, with a piece that lock the scanner from above and 2 screws to lock the piece, not a twist-locking but a press-locking design.

I asked Phenix Technology, the A-10 scanners with very large aperture can reach 12-14kpps when controlled for lightshow application @t 20° angle. The speed is low, but enough for beamshow use.

Correct. We show a 1 inch round mirror at trade shows such as Photonics West and Prolight & Sound. The mirror is mounted into a slot, and then the mount that is used is a two-piece mount (not a single, C-shaped compression mount as is typical).

Alternatively, as was done with the other PL member who sent us laser marking mirrors, mirrors may have a mount that attaches to the C506 and the mount basically screws onto the scanners. So the scanners are slipped into the X-Y mount, and then mirrors are attached afterward.
