I'll be bringing my CO2 laser engraver to NWLEM. It's 30W RMS, so it can't cut anything much over 1/8", but it's awesome for engraving almost anything. The max table size is 14"x10" (it's actually 16x12, but trying to fit that big of a thing in there is difficult).

Anyone in attendance can use it for whatever you'd like, so it's time to ENGRAVE ALL THE THINGS!

The software in kind of janky, so you'll want to pre-render your graphics as a PDF in an RGB color pallet at 300DPI (you can go as low as 150, but you'll start to see the pixels).

    See you soon!
    Neat!

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

Nicholas is yummy I love eating there but you will have leftovers. There is a pod of food trucks 12 blocks from the venue which had great food when we checked out the LEM venue. Platinum, Rob and I went to the angry unicorn for lunch there bacon fries, waffle fries, yummy burgers... There was all sorts of other stuff there too. The Hot Cake House on Powell is also good 24/7 great for 3AM after lasers, I love their sauted mushrooms. I am sure we can find plenty of good food, beer, cider etc for you.

Laser (the acronym derived from Light Amplification by Stimulated Emissions of Radiation) is a spectacular manifestation of this process. It is a source which emits a kind of light of unrivaled purity and intensity not found in any of the previously known sources of radiation. - Lasers & Non-Linear Optics, B.B. Laud.

Well, I shopped around for a generator today. As I suspected, they ranged from $160-260 per day. Granted, we'd only have to rent one for one day for up to 8 hours of use since the rental places are closed over the weekend.

I still don't see it working out though since, so far, it would just be myself and Vidal Wolf making use of them. I will continue looking tomorrow, but I don't see the generator option working out since my personal budget is really tight right now and I don't expect Mr. Wolf to pick up the whole tab. There's a rotary phase converter floating around as an option. I'll look into that and see how many amps it can cover.

Otherwise, things look good for this weekend. Load-in is 10AM Friday and I plan on dropping by the venue the day before to check in and make sure everything is in order as well as help Rob (Infinity6) with some truss. I see Friday as a kind of 'chill' day where we can just hang out and set things up. Saturday can be planned a little in the process, in regards to demos and running shows on whatever equipment is set up.

    Looking forward to the weekend!

I fly into town late on Thursday evening, so I should be available Friday morning to assist with the load-in and setup. Since I'm traveling light this time (no equipment), I don't mind helping out. Just no heavy lifting, please! (Two back surgeries mean that I can't lift what I used to!)

Regarding the 3 phase power, I agree that it's starting to sound like more trouble than it's worth. If there are only a few people bringing ions, it's probably not worth the hassle (not to mention the expense). Better to focus on the solid state stuff and have more time to geek out with that vs spending hours wiring up a big honkin' generator.

    Really looking forward to this!

I am flying into town on Saturday morning and leaving early Monday. Since I won't be there to help setup, I can volunteer to help clean up.

Also, a friend of mine will be joining us for a portion of the event. His name is Kevin. He is not a member of this forum, but he does like lasers.

If anybody forgets anything or needs a power supply we can make a run to surplus gizmos if needed. I am going tomorrow as I am short on power supplies.... I found a large galvo there one of the last visits with Platinum. picture
