Both those links look fine, keep in mind that all of these designs and optical arrangements are made for special purposes and are not guaranteed to work with your application .

-edit- to answer your questions, iirc the more space that you have to work with, the better your divergence will be (longer distances = better divergence) The 2nd lens you'll have to fiddle with to get the focus just right. That part takes patience!
20mm might be the distance from the LD coll lens to the 1st pcv lens. You might want to PM Dave to be sure. I don't know the answer to that question off hand. Someone here might chime in w/ some add'l info on that.
