Not sure if this is different from yours Adam, but seems it might be based on the conversation earlier in this thread.
The newer transmitters for the 912 have this mode-selector switch. However, this selector switch is the exception, not the rule. Many of the other radios they sell on BangGood do not have the selector, so you have to be careful to order Mode-2. (Though I agree that it's a nice feature to have!)

So how did your first flight go? Flies like a brick, doesn't it?

Tentative, because by the time I got home, bathed daughter and put her to bed, it was dark outside and our garden isn't big!

Once I'd worked out how to switch the rates to high it was better, but I also did a search on t'interweb and found that the top right button marked 'accelerating' is actually an even higher rate of throw, but you need to keep it depressed. I saw a guy had modded it and put a toggle switch in its place which is probably what I'll do, rather than lengthening the servo arms.

Next job is to start grinding a little bit off the spare flybar weights.

Interstingly, once I trimmed it out, I didn't really experience hardly any torque yaw, so either I'm not gassing it violently enough yet, or it has gyro compensation somewhere.

What i did really like is the sound once you get it a little way from you and the motor and gear whine diminish. Then you hear the noise of the blades more, and its very authentic...

As I have a complete spare chopper on the way, I'll probably leave one stock, and mod one, so I can feel back to back the difference the mods make to the handling.

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

That's interesting! I didn't know that. Will give it a try on my next flight. If it works well, I agree that a toggle switch would be ideal.

Yeah, that will make a large difference. Though you may find that afterward you will need to adjust the length of the connectors that link the servos to the swashplate. After I lightened my flybar weights the bird wanted to pitch up and fly backwards when it should have been in hover, so I lengthened the link on the pitch servo to bring it back to level. (The difference was enough that I didn't have enough travel even on max trim to level it out.)

Like most electrics these days, it has a built-in gyro, and it's very effective. You'll be hard pressed to blow out the tail, even under very hard maneuvers. The gyro is really solid, and the tail rotor motor has a lot of grunt, so it responds really fast. Some of the smaller helicopters do suffer from sluggish tail-rotor response, but being that this one is larger, they were smart to put a bigger motor in the tail, and the difference really shows.

What i did really like is the sound once you get it a little way from you and the motor and gear whine diminish. Then you hear the noise of the blades more, and its very authentic...
For a fixed-pitch bird, it will fool you at a distance. Put the graphite blades on it and it will chop the air just like a collective pitch bird.

As I have a complete spare chopper on the way, I'll probably leave one stock, and mod one, so I can feel back to back the difference the mods make to the handling.
That's a great way to compare. But I predict that you'll prefer flying it with the lighter flybar weights.

For those who don't want to buy two separate birds just to experiment, you can pick up a replacement flybar for like 3 bucks, and it's really easy to change. (If you buy the crash kit, it also comes with a spare flybar.)

Wow! I'm out because my family is in town still and come back to see you all have turned to the dark side (AKA RC). I've been flying RC for 15 years now and have flown virtually everything you can imagine. Until recently the only place to get things was your local hobby shop, Tower Hobbies or swap meets. Now we have places like Bangood & Hobby King. They are changing the RC community by making it cheaper and easier to get started. I used to pay $70 or more dollars for a 3 cell 2100mah Lipo battery. Hobby King sells the same battery (sometimes better) for around $20. This is amazing and a great time to get into this hobby. With the introduction of cheap video cameras and video transmitters a whole group of amateur videographers has emerged producing footage from angles only achievable by full scale aircraft in the past.
Keep flying. This is a really rewarding hobby.

I have a full spares kit (~$8 iirc) too, so I can mod both eventually, and still have a spare or stock flybar

    Never mind....

post redacted - I was asking about Banggoods shipping time. It's been over a month since I placed my quadcopter order. It's been at some post office in Shanghai since April 11th.

That is the biggest problem with Bangood. Shipping time. At work we figured out that they ship twice a month. Once in the beginning and then middle of the month. So if you just miss the first shipment add 2 weeks to the shipping time. Kinda sucks. But that is the cost of cheep RC equipment.

And buffo says... "Oh, this hobby is nothing like lasers. You won't spend but a couple hundred dollars."
