^ I'd be curious about that too

Exactly what I was thinking. I'd expect to see more difference between 445 and 462, which lets face it is almost 50% closer to the old 473 than the 445 (11nm vs 17nm at their stated wavelengths).

I rather suspect from it's colour that this diode is running closer to the 450 end of the tolerance, although always a difficult call from a photo.

Pity you haven't been able to measure its wavelength and its a pity there aren't more diodes to compare it with to establish if this is the norm.

Looks like it might be a little brighter in visible appearance. But not by much. I would need to see them in a projector and side by side at same exact power levels. Cause it looks darn close to me.

What we are not taking into account here is the diode being compared against as the benchmark. The "445" diode could itself already be up near 460, particularly if the theory about binning the regular 445 diodes is correct.

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

IŽll measure the wavelength when my sample arrives.

When i compare 445 to 450nm, in person, i could see the difference not only in color but beam quality

This is not too exciting. I made the point earlier that such a broad range of possible wavelengths means that the purchaser of one or two has no idea if he is going to see much of a color difference. He might, but @ 3x the cost this is not too exciting. If the 0.9W 473nm becomes available, then this would probably be worth building into a projector. If the beam quality is different then this should be measured, especially if the difference is small.

    So,I guess it's back to waiting on the .9W 475 then ..

-edit-- Just saw this on Nichia's site .. now they're saying it's 1W. Is this the same one as before? This one says 465-475nm.

I would like to see some single-mode 462nm diodes. These beams are damn ugly! I only need 100mW or so.

Either the camera really fails to capture the difference between the two or perhaps that 445 is more like 455+ and the 462 is less than 462. The only reason I say this is because I have seen a 300mW 457nm DPSS and it blew the socks off the 445 in terms of color. The 445 was violet by comparison. The difference was very noticeable.

If you're the smartest person in the room, then you're in the wrong room.
