    Good question.
I think the MAX is a nice improvement on the Mobile Beat. It gives me some of what I'm looking for but since I don't have the immediate need and can wait a bit maybe you indeed have something that may be right up my alley (more power, higher scan rate?). The key is quality and a good price. As an engineer myself, I'm always looking for quality hopefully at a competitive price (that's why my other laser is a Ducati).

Great info from all btw, I am Grateful for all the replies.

And who is building a box that makes this happen in my back yard???.........
    X-Laser?! Let's work on this.

But for now, thanks for being an X-Laser user! We appreciate it.

still waiting for the diode driver xlaser demonstrated at selem...
suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

Funny you should mention that, Chris. I just had a conversation with Andrew about the driver yesterday.

I actually have a prototype version of the driver in a product I'm beta-testing for X-laser right now. Unfortunately, it (the driver) is not yet ready for release, mainly because the version I have is only suitable for applications within a specific maximum current range (from around .8 to 2.0 amps).

The original plan was to have the driver work for max currents from 200 mA all the way to 5 Amps. Not sure if that goal is still realistic or not though. (This stability over a wide current range is the unspoken weak-spot in just about every other driver on the market, which is why we felt it was so important to hit our original target.)

Worst case, we may have to bump up the lower end of the max current to something like 600 mA or so. Of course, the driver will still be able to modulate below that, but we want it to be as stable and as linear as possible throughout the band of max current settings we specify. And we DON'T want to get into multiple current-sensing resistors that the end-user would need to either install or jumper in/out as needed.

Designing a driver is easy. Designing a good driver that works over a wide range of diode voltages and maximum currents is hard.
