well I can measure the resistance... I was hoping to find some kind of information about what this thing was meant to handle...
I got a bunch of them and was thinking of making a massive coil gun with them![]()
What current rating is the wire good for, i.e. type and gauge?
Hi flecom,
the Field from SP 168 adjusts from 500 to 1000 gauss. The Magnetcoilresistance is 48,5 Ohm cold and 60 Ohm hot.The Magnetregulation range of approximately 2 to 4 amperes.
Although the above can give you an idea of a conservative long duty cycle rating, you really need to base the current it can take off of the wire gauge. You can determine the maximum current by that, how it is bundled and what the insulation is. If the duty cycle or amount of time current flows is short, even more current.

Its classical enameled/varnished magnet wire.
