Now this is the 'proper' way to think. Now that I've invested in one, I've got to buy 2+ more pieces of equipment to make it more useful! Its a small wonder why this resulted in your colossal equipment stash.

I'm grateful Swami self-censored as I have at least one or two ideas as to what he was going to suggest.

OK, back to seriously getting prepared for SELEM . . we're down to the wire!

Hahahahaha! Love it. And yes, you have discovered how my rationalizations have gotten me to the point of storing a laser under one of the skirted tables in the lobby of the banquet hall that I display promotional materials on. I'm about out of closet space.

Just a quick update: The shirt order has been submitted. Thanks to Chris for the awesome design!

Also, I put the truss and crank stands together last night. I'm impressed! This will work out very well. (I'm actually thinking that I might need another one of these at some point!) Price sure can't be beat, that's for sure.

Finally, I blew a radiator hose on the Jeep this morning, but fortunately I was able to limp home (wasn't too far out) and I just finished changing the hose. Runs great now, so no worries about the trek to SELEM.

Less than 3 weeks to go!

Is your opinion that it's good enough I should buy one?

They are pretty damned sweet. I think when you see it all set up at SELEM you'll re-evaluate buying any more global truss at least.

Downsides: it's steel, so over time it will rust if you don't keep it painted. (Mine was well packed, and the paint looks pretty tough, but even so you just know eventually you'll need to touch it up.) Also, it's only 6 inch triangle trussing, not 12 inch, so the weight limit is something to consider. But I think it will have no problem supporting 4 or 5 Plutos.

The stands are nearly identical to my On-stage tripods, with the exception that these have the crank-up mechanism. The cable and winch looks similar to the ones you have, though I'm sure they're probably not rated for as much load.

All in all though, for $325 delivered, this is a hell of a deal. You get 3 truss sections that bolt together (boo!) to make a maximum run of ~ 20 ft. I don't think I'll ever need a longer run than 20 ft, and if I ever did, I would just buy a second set of these things and set up both sets (2 spans, 4 tripods). The only thing I don't like is that you have to bolt the truss sections together.

It's very lightweight too. True, steel is heavier than aluminum, but the fact that they are only 6 inch truss sections makes up the difference.

Is there anyone who would be willing to share/book a room at the Holiday Inn with me to cut down the cost?

Thanks rodman, also if anyone could take me to Newton/Hotel my flight arrives around 1:43 PM on the 12th and I'd be willing to provide lunch or gas money or help with setup if needed.

My schedule is starting to finalize for August... and it looks like it may actually work out this year... I will do official registration stuff this week after one more confirmation with one of my clients.

Working out some last minute details, father in hospital, van in shop, etc etc. but hoping to see you all soon. Might not be present a lot of the time, will be traveling with wife and little "Lumia" but will have considerable hang out time. My two local buddies dropped out and I don't wanna make the drive myself.

Not sure what all I could bring, have some newer builds, Lumia rig, ed's Porto-rotator, the 6w 445 diode doing 8.3W, 462nm, quad red pushing 3.8w (needs realign from travel the last show I did). If anything sound interesting let me know.
