You've still got time until my May 16th prediction. No pressure. I think you need to talk her into a kitchen though. I'm having a hell of a time finding bedroom furniture ads with cash rebates amounting to $535 but, I can get you there with kitchen stuff! http://www.furniture-fair.net/rebates.aspx Convince her she really needs a new oven and range top. Problem solved!

Below are the links to the parts I bought for my 240 racing quad.
Remember I upgraded the motors & props and added the camera & video transmitter.
The motors it comes with get very hot! Beware I got burned several times. Also Bangood doesn't sell spare frame parts. If you break an arm (and you will like I did), you will have to make another yourself (like I did). It's a kit with almost no instructions. I can help guide you if you need it.
The flight controller it comes with is my new favorite. It took me 10 minutes to set it up. Very easy!
You will need your own Flight transmitter & receiver. It only needs 4 channels.

Awesome - thanks for posting, Chris!

Any photos available that show the locations for the major components?

    Thanks Chris!
Dang, I feel another hangar expansion getting ready to happen...

    BTW -

I get a 404 error on all the hobbyking links, but it might have something to do with my current web access location.
    Since I can't see the details -

What battery are you using, and what kind of flight times do you get while running the FPV gear?

    Hey Jerry;

I know what you're saying, but I've already tried FPV once. I currently have 5 different quads (plus 4 other traditional helicopters), and one of those quads is the Hubsan 107D, which has a video camera that feeds back to a display on the transmitter. I've flown it quite a bit (owned the bird for over 18 months now), and I even added a fish-eye lens on the camera to increase the field of view.

That being said, I didn't really enjoy FPV flight until I went along for a "ride" using the spare set of goggles that Chris had. And yet, even though he had some very nice goggles, when he let me take the controls I could tell right away that the only way I would be truly happy would be if I had a dual camera setup to give me stereoscopic 3D vision. (Depth perception is really hard to judge on a single camera system, even with high-resolution goggles.)

I'm just having trouble getting off the $530 to get the video system I want!

    Brad:

We don't need a new kitchen! We just replaced the fridge, and all the other appliances are 8 years old or less. Besides, the kitchen is the second largest room in the house already. (Second only to the great room.) So I have no plans to spend any more money on the kitchen - at least not in the near future. I might get the floors resurfaced at some point, and I'll probably replace the counter-tops eventually, but long before that happens we need to replace the bedroom stuff. (Which will be pricey enough as it is!) In fact, tomorrow Marie wants to go shopping for furniture. Lucky me...

I'm using Nano Tech 25-50C 3 cell LiPo's. I get a solid 7 minutes of hard flying. That's using all the FPV gear. It's the only way I fly this quad.

FYI: I stopped using the carbon props on this machine. When you are racing you tend to go through props like a race car goes through tires. Carbon didn't improve the flight characteristics enough to justify the extra cost. I also discovered the 3 bladed carbon props aren't as strong as the 2 bladed carbon props. I think this is due to the special manufacturing process required to make 3 blades. They seem to be weak at the hub. I had one fail in flight under normal forward flight. After that I went back to plastic blades. At least you can see the stress points on them and replace it before it fails. They turn white where they are stressed.

One more thing....The video transmitter listed above died. I have trouble believing it was actually 600mw anyway because there was no heat sink and it didn't produce any heat. I ended up replacing it with another transmitter I had on another quad. It is rated at 400mw, but has a heat sink and gets a little warm when in use. Also my image quality improved with the 400mw transmitter. All of this leads me to believe the "600mw" transmitter was no where near what they advertised it as.

Here's the link to the 400mw system I am now using.

    Chris -
    Appreciate the additional info!

What props are you using since you've moved away from the carbons?

Figure I might as well get a complete order list together ...

I'm interested in how well this works. Typically, when the baseline becomes great, the spacing between the "eyes" becomes relatively small and the differences between the two images decreases. This is carried to an extreme with astronomical telescopes. But, even here veteran observes will say that when the image is divided between the two eyes (identical images), they can see dimmer objects and the observing is more pleasant.

Is this what you are describing, one camera with two "screens"?

These are what I use now. Note the auction details say it is a servo, but they are actually selling 5x3 3 bladed props. I let them know but they haven't fixed it yet.

The setup uses 2 cameras, 2 video transmitters & receivers then sends separate images on separate screens to each eye. I don't own a pair but what I've read the 3D image is really good. Everyone who has bought them loves them.
