Need some help planning/building RGB scanner

Yes Metal, Yes enamel coated, Pre-cut slots.

Here's the hard part. I do have one more of these. Dont know if I can get more... well at least not right now... but I'll keep my eye out for them. I have two others of the same dimension, just different cutouts.

Its a tight squeeze, but it was sheer luck that it fit so well. I've got some more mods to add to it... but I can just add that to the never ending 'To-Do list'

Well, I've been working on it some more and I've now got the beamspot size down to 21 x 38 mm (about 1"x 1.5") @ 50 ft (this time I measured w/ a tape measure rather than walking it off ) It's 3x3 mm at the aperature but at 1 ft. from the aperature its 2x 2.5 mm which should fit most galvo mirrors -- I'm still not planning on going into production- this has been too much of a pain in the ass.. .. but a real challenge.. and fun.. and 636nm is really a vivid red color I'm going to build a dual version next with the pbs cube .. I wish I had access to an optics lab with lots of lenses ... I cant afford to buy edmunds out ..heh..

So here's some updated progress on my RGY. It is full blown Laser-Wave now! Once I have the Pass 660nm and reflect 635nm dichro I will have over 2 watts of RGY!

I have attached a few pictures of the lasers and some beam shots. I don't have the scanners mounted yet, but that will happen eventually.

FYI when looking at the lasers from where the beam terminates from left to right you see 650, 635, and 532nm.

Oh yeah and the 635nm looks no where near as orange as it does in the picture.

The 635 is operating at about 400mw while the 650nm is operating at about 800mw. The colors are close, but your eye can tell them apart. They look close in apparent brightness, however, the 635 is brighter.

As I have mentioned before I would love to use a combo of other blues as well. Like a 445 and 473nm or 457 and 473nm. But we'll see if that'll ever happen. If I do end up using 445 nm it will probably be around 100-200mw tops and the 473nm will really dominate. Do you guys know of any generous people who just recently won the lottery?

Allthat - sorry the manage attachments menu didn't work the first time so I had to go back I found the trick (for me at least) is that I cant add 5 images at a time instead only 2-3. Otherwise it'll time out.

Update - Ok I guess I can only add 2 at a time - 3 is timing out for me now

That's much better. All those beams look fairly close to the same diameter. Is that a good 635, or poor 532 and 660? You can REALLY tell the color difference between the reds in those pics.

As usual, its just the way the camera sees it. In person, when a show is running with projectors side to side, in my opinion there's little chance that most people can tell a difference. Some digital camera see it better than others. Check out this photo:

Can you tell if any of the 3 projectors are running 635?

Highlight here for the answer---> The one on the left is 635nm the others are 660nm.

Allthat - the 650 and 635 are the same (well almost the exact same beam specs) and 'bad' compared to the 532nm - however, not as bad as I expected - and they work just fine - not perfectly - but fine with the 800mw greenie I have.

DZ - its really interesting how that all works. Some cameras that are great at seeing IR aren't even meant for night vision. Its interesting.

Hello again everyone I told you at the end of the day - the other day - that I was going to align/mix the red and green in RGY. Well I finally got around to it tonight.

I took a large quantity of pictures. Many of them deal with the difference between the divergence and basic look of the beam itself.

My house is only about 25' wide (much longer but I was too lazy to move my projector to take advantage of that). What I did instead was use FS mirrors on the walls to get two bounces. Which gave me approximately 42' (measured with my feet and shoes which are almost exactly 1' long). This gave me the perfect set up to get both near and far field alignment.

Then there are a few pictures of the new RGY beam hitting the diffraction grating. Keep in mind the 532nm is operating at about 1 watt and the 635nm is at about 400mw - so yes the green is very over powering!
