Default speed controll for an induction motor?

kinda not laser related but i have two different blowers that use a capacitor to start/run and as far as i know a normal SCR based speed control will not work with these types of induction motors, the only type of control i know of for these types of induction motors is a variable frequency drive. are there other options available? the VFD drives i have been seeing are either 3 phase, operate on 220vac or are expensive, i need single phase 120vac at atlest 300-400 watts for one blower and the other one around 200-300 watts.

The problem with running a cap start motor on a variable frequency drive is that the starter cap has a higher impedance at lower frequencies and may not be able to start the motor. VFDs are designed for 3 phase motors.
If you're trying to control the flow of a blower, why not use a restrictor to limit the airflow instead?
