was wonder on the shutter is there a time limit to how fast it has to shut off? I would think set the time delay to3-5 sec of zero on the modulation lines and it would never shut during a show except at the end when you want it to do so.

nice price, getting to the point it isn't worth building anymore except for the enjoyment of it.

    Peter,

The are some DACs that send hot beams out when the computer or dac is powered off.. My QM.net does this every single time. In this case a shutter on the projector is a very good idea.

One snag I see is that it doesn't have a shutter in the current version.

I feel that shutters are absolute BS anyway as modern lasers don't need these anymore , they are relics of old times, but as US laws and regulations till predict these, it may pose a small problem.
We can look into building one in at added costs though. Ours are not cluncky and you hardly hear them, that's for sure

The info on this system is found here : http://www.520laser.nl/s400.html

    Best regards,

    Peter

I can assure you: they most certainly aren't... a driver can fail and get stuck.. a signal line can get pulled high on a bad moment... A bad signal connection can create issues.
What swami said can also be true.. a dac can send a spike when powered off or even dirty connections can create weird behaviour on certain laser controllers.

Peter the trouble is whilst you can add a shutter your system isn't varianced for the US which means Wendy can't do any commercial shows in the future even if you fit a shutter as the projector will be illegal. I know atm she says it's for home use, but considering she's done commercial in the past, she may want a system that is varianced just in case.

There's also a slight risk at customs from importing a non varianced projector although from reports most seem to pass through.

I know of at least one other gentleman from Connecticut who has a similar story, getting into this about 6 weeks before SELEM and, in two years, has been to SELEM twice (getting ready for a third), FLEM in Florida, CarribLEM in Utila off the Honduras coast, NELEM, north of Boston, and has been to my place in Delaware on a few occasions to "play" and even became an ILDA awards judge. It WILL *quickly* get you back into this!
Yup, that's me all right. It's life changing! At the time in 2014 I was looking for a new hobby, and boy howdy, did I find it!

SELEM is more pure awesomeness you'll find in 3 or 4 days anywhere else. Except for maybe Carrib-LEM, which also has SCUBA.

selem is like an entire year of photonlexicon crammed into four days.

Given your background, you might recognize some of the more senior members who will be attending - among them Aron Bacs (formerly of AVI), Bill Benner of Pangolin, and Mike Dunn from Firstlight Laser (and now Lightwave). It is absolutely a ton of fun, and you would no doubt fit right in. It's fast approaching though, so make your plans soon!

Speak to Ray Philpot (Pitts) if you get the chance. He flew here to attend one of the smaller events (a Florida Laser Enthusiast's Meeting, or FLEM), and he had a great time! SELEM is quite a bit larger than FLEM though. More people, more lasers, more display areas, more presentations, and more fun!
