This is not an old guy rant about how new music is worse than it used to be.
I've noticed I've only added 5 songs to my music collection in a whole year. The usual lyrics in songs about sex, bitches/ hoes/ sluts (gender neutral), alcohol, drugs, expensive cars and the megalomaniacal singer or rapper that has all or some of the above was maybe cool when my balls were just dropping. The cliche street life and struggle is getting old too, I'm not saying it's an unimportant subject but it's been beaten to death. There's nothing I don't like generally about heavy metal or rock but I fail to find anything new that isn't too cheezy. New orchestral songs I'm listening are too generic too, like carbon copies of the latest Superman or Batman OST.
I moved to electronic music few years ago because of this which generally have no lyrics and I have about 500 EDM tracks in my playlist but in the new songs the electronic producers don't seem to be trying anymore and it's becoming more and more popular to get a rapper or a vocalist singing about the same shit that I was running away from when going to EDM or electronic music in general in an EDM track.
And I'm not going to be the guy who complains that 12-16 year olds are downloading music production software and making music in their room because I have few songs made by people when they were teens and I like them but some kids (and some untalented adults) sure are adding more trash to the ocean of trash I have to filter through to find something that is at least decently mixed and mastered.
I don't know, maybe I don't know where to look for good songs anymore. Youtube and Soundcloud apparently have went down the drain as good source of finding new songs.
Swamidogs youtube channel introduced me to The Knocks, I checked them out and they have some good songs. But sometimes I want to be given a list of artists and songs and find new songs this way instead of by chance when doing something else, and not have 99% of the list be all the above.
So post some songs, singers, rappers, bands, composers or DJs you think are good (not doing the above shit) and are worth checking out.
