    Default Laser video projector

Just found this and have not yet heard about it, it may well be the perfect mix of laser and video technology, capable of displaying video content with real laser technology advantages :

    Based on Coherent Taipan OPSL

Just wondering about the future of that technology and its availability...?

The video quality leaves a lot to be desired and I imagine that the design doesn't allow typical line based laser scanning. So, not really the best of both worlds but the worst of both worlds.

Yes but it always seems to be sort of a early model, I won't be surprised if further improvements would be made in the future like better resolution and so...

There is already pictures of full color images projected on buildings and they are quite good.

Anyway I find this sort of project interesting !

I know them. Their laser projector design is based on some experimental projector build by I believe a soviet scientist. If my memory serves me right it doesn't use polygonal rotating mirrors but rather an electric magnet bending a thin sheet of metal with a mirror attached to it.

The projector is monochrome. RGB is achieved by placing 3 projectors next to each other and using I think a VJ program to align the outputs of each projector. This can be very hard to do as the surface projected onto gets less flat, to a point where it can be impractical. Anyone who has done video mapping with stacked video projectors knows what I mean.

Resolution is poor, 320x240 or less, not usable for real videos but not useless either.

They can build and sell you one if you contact them, but the price last time I checked was $30K-$40K.

In summary unless you want to project a low quality video very far it isn't worth it, more expensive than both video projectors and galvo laser projectors. It's bright but not so bright to blow away video projectors at that price range as they imply.

If I was them I would sell the design. I think I'd be better off than occasionally providing this as a service or building and selling a unit to someone.
But they are talented individuals and good at marketing their products, I'll give them that.

You know them?, then you'd know this is a acousto-optic based projector.

Then my memory fails me or the design has changed.
But checking their website it does seem the projectors are still monochrome.

Thanks for the infos. Well, seems not that close to become available...

Too bad as sometimes I dream to display filled contents with my laser projector along with the brighter outlines, at larger scales... Seems that my only alternative is to add a (very heavy and expensive) video projector for that !

They have RGB and a few of them are in Use in Russia.

I remember I think in 2011 they still said they were working on making an RGB unit. Good for them.
@sbk: there are other companies working on very similar projects. Don't hold your breath but don't lose hope either.

I think you get all the benefits of laser using an rgb modulated source to replace the light source in a standard lcd projector.
We need yellow to really do it well. R660R638YGB470V445. And more lines. This gives the wide colors and eliminates the raster scan need. Doesn't provide the focus on different distances at the same time.
