Speaking of Applied Physics Letters, I have a full set from Volume 1, #3, 1962 through 1994. The set was started by B.J. McMurtry (early Stanford, GTE Sylvania, etc.), but was mostly from Jack Foster, inventor of the gas transport CO2 laser sold by GTE Sylvania and then Spectra-Physics. I'd love to find a better home for them, along with a set of I.E.E.E. Journal of Quantum Electronics from 1969 through 1997 from the same source. Eighteen heavy bankers boxes in my closet!
I'm interested! That's the same head as I have just smaller. The tube dimensions are: 85.25" long, 2 & 5/8 (inside tube width)x 1.5" tall. The beam output window measures .25" wide by 1.5" tall. This is a flowing gas tube. It's got ports for water cooling and gas inlet(back) output(front).
I wasn't planning to modify the head, but I really would like to see this monster ride the lighting. It has provisions for more electrodes on the top of the head. I'll keep your offer in mind if I can determine that the complexity of the pulse electronics turns out to be to complicated. It would look good in your museum for sure.
The value for me is aesthetic & historical accuracy. Please keep all original parts and screws!
Looks great in those pics! I'm glad it made it to you all right. I kind of overkilled it on the packaging, but with classic laser heads' like this, you can be too careful. I'm gonna miss the big Nitrogen "beast".
