    Default RGB 6Watt Goldenstar Projector

    Hi guys.

    I recently got a 6 Watt (2R, 2G, 2B) From goldenstar. Red was 638, Green was 520 and blue 445.

I added DT40s, and they must be DT40 wide as they go much wider than the ones I already have.

    It's this one...plus DT40s

Initially I was disappointed with the brightness of the red. I was expecting the red to be very bright, and comparing it to my 0.5 red (637) there was not much difference. But after doing a few shows I am really happy with the overall laser.

The build quality is excellent. They are coming on leaps and bounds and are great value for money.
I'm really happy with the laser and they look great for my purpose. I'm using them OUTSIDE with smoke and they look pucker.

The communication was fast and the packaging was great.

No pics I'm afriad. I'm in hot and dusty India and want to keep them as clean as possible.

    I'm a happy bunny :-)

    Thanks guys at Goldenstar.

Is that using their OEM 6W all in one module?

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.

I've bought a couple of the 4W OEM modules (with 462 blue) and they look pretty good (and a couple of the 520nm 2W ones). John sent me some pics of the 6W ones inside and the optical layout looked really odd though. I couldn't figure it out, it had 2 sets of prisms on green and blue which seemed wasteful, plus some oddly placed optical components that made it hard to work out the beam paths. But if they work well then great. I decided against it as I'd be maintaining them myself and didn't want to buy something I couldn't work on easily.

The reason your red probably looks the same brightness is because they knife edge them rather than cube combine, so at close range the beam is bigger/wider but no higher power density. You'll find that once the range increases you'll get more overlap and the power density will increase and be more visible for longer.
On my 4W I'm overdriving mine as they're TEC cooled and they'll take more even without active cooling. However, I suspect that the 6W unit is already a bit overdriven to make the spec power out of the front, as the doubled up prism pairs will be sucking some of that raw power.

    Thanks Norty

Puts my mind at ease a little.

I was just hoping to see some really bright red......red seems to lack in lasers now.....not blue like it used to be.

Don't forget you're only getting 1W of red, 2W of 520 and 3W of 445 in those, so you'd expect it to be a bit light in comparison.
Edit: just seen your first post says 2 of each. The pic I saw of the internals only showed 2 red diodes, so I can't imagine they'd manage 2W out of them. Maybe its a different module entirely.
Edit2: From my OEM module price list... W6000(R1W/638 G:2W/520 B:3W/445)

    Is this what you got?

    Have you measured the power?

    Norty,
Yes that's bassicaly what I got.

I asked David to test each laser with a meter and show me the output. Each colour was doing form 1.8 to 1.9.

I'd love to test for myself but I don't have a meter. I used to have a laser Bee reader but sold it ages ago.
I wished I never sold it.

    I'll set about getting one.
It will only be the outside of the module.
