And the results (the topmost part was not lasermarked, but milled and coloured):

It is just me, or are the measurements different for the laser marked parts vs the milled and painted one? Surely they should line up, no?

    Hi Adam,

    yes, they are different

The ring on the top has an angular scale with 360deg on 95mm diameter (so 10 deg equals to 8,29mm), the other two have a centimeter-measure -- so 8,39 : 10 mm ...

Ah... OK, cool - that makes sense.

And I have to admit that the laser marking looks really good!

... I'm actually building/programming a "focus shifter" for our lasers - here an image of the needed components:

And a video, showing the online distance adjusting - in the final application the measuring spot (red laser dot) is in the center of the working area:

The "slave CNC-controller" is based on an Arduino Pro Mini and runs parallel (electrically OR) to the main controller - so any of them can control the height- or turning axis (or two more, if needed) ...

... I'm actually programming a simple exporting/lasermarking interface, to send/exchange the vector data from CAD to the laser driver.

Here is a video, how it's done with the CAD/CAM programm "eSign":

In Corel ist's similar through a macro.

For programs, not capable to use external tools or macros, this has to be done with exporting the data and manually starting the interface - when the interface is already running, then it's as simple as pressing the "Reload" button after exporting, to get the last changes

... expanding the "CNC-slaves" for homing and referencing - instead of big/complex CNC-controllers, a flock of "nano-slaves" for each task could be much more effective and easier to expand or update too

... thanks! - here a video showing the "final" marking of the rotating scale:

... pure silver can also be marked quite well directly (without "aids" like CerMark or similar)
