    Default The Really Big Dye

Finally...Finally. The big dye laser that I have worked on over the last two plus years, is complete. This is somewhere around the tenth version of this laser. The entire thing weighs in at over 300 Kg and I have designed, built and tweaked EVERY element from the power supply through the optical system; even to the fire suppression system. It has been a long time since I have posted any useful/instructional videos, but both of my "cameramen" will be returning in a couple of weeks and I will post multiple videos, covering operation and the sub-systems and this will (hopefully) be useful to anyone contemplating BIG lamp driven lasers. Not everything I did was successful, there were a lot of dead ends, but that may be as valuable to hear about as what did work and of course...why.

Limited by optics damage, but the gain line suggests 3 digits.

If you reflect the beam off Mount Lafayette, do you think I can see it here in Massachusetts?

No. The side of the mountain is wrong. Also, I have been disappointed at how difficult it is to see the beam on the bottom of a cloud ceiling (around 2km) from a 10 km distance.
