can U tell me what "unable to initialize windows sockets interface, error code 0" means, and also winsock failed? It looks like it sends packets but wont receive. I took down the firewall but no good. The IP address, subnet mask are zeros and the default gateway is blank. A little help please?

Steve-o, can you tell me about your setup a bit? Is it your home pc? Are you attached to some type of high speed internet, cable, dsl? And do you have a cable/dsl router attached? Also, what type of pc, is it an integrated ethernet or is there an adapter in a pci slot? Also do you have more than one? Aside from adding the web cam, do you make any other changes? I can say that I doubt very much that the card itself has a problem. In 10 years I can count the number of ethernet cards that needed to be replaced due to an actual hardware failure on one hand.

Actually this was the last weekend to get everything ironed out--
It's too late now so i'll show up with what I can..
Yeah I got 2 PCs on a dsl router and the one I was gonna bring crashed when I loaded the bug-ridden logictech-cam disc onto it.
I think i'll bring something else so no worries eh..
It's gettin' late and work tommorrow so I'm just gonna forgetaboutit' for now --

Looks like I probably wont be bringing the "central PC" for the ethernet hub, but Allthat says he's got that covered.

Actually, I was planning on using one of my machines as the central server for the Ethernet Network. I have a 450 gig SATA drive that I was going to set up as a fileshare. All you need is one computer that has a working ethernet port so you can connect to the network to swap pictures, videos, etc... When you're done, you disconnect from the network and you're all set.

I will(if there's enough time) may be able to come up with a wireless cam direct to DVD-RAM 8 hour stand alone recorder (which I already have) if i can come up with a monitor with RCA type inputs..

I have an old Amiga 1084 monitor that has composite video RCA inputs. It's only a 13 inch monitor, but it works... Want me to bring it?

With regard to your network settings, I noticed you said the subnet mask was set to all zeros. That's not correct. It should be 255.255.255.0 if you're setting the conenction up manually. (Truthfully though if you're running Windows XP you should leave everything in auto-detect and let the router assign the settings. Nearly every router supports DHCP these days.)

Like DZ said, it's probably a simple hardware conflict with the camera. Ethernet cards rarely fail. However, I'll bring a spare PCI card to SELEM just in case! Bring what you want; we'll fix it and make it work!

Hi Steve-o;

Win2000 is fine. Hell, I've even got one machine running Win98! We'll get the network card working - don't sweat it. Though if you already have another machine you want to bring, you can do that. But if you bring the one that doesn't work too, we'll fix it while we're there, so you can go home with TWO working machines!

OK I'll bring the PC instead of the DVD recorder. I'm sure one of you gurus can figure it out. (I think the registry is corrupted due to my saying "no" to all the registry changes it wanted to make. Hell it wanted me to turn off firewall and antivirus to "ensure all options work correctly" Hell if im going to lower the anti-virus just for a webcam!! BTW it's only 1 PC thats messed up, the other (my good one- the permanently stay-at-home-one)
is ok. I guess nevermind the monitor Adam, then. Thanks tho.
I'll still try to remember to bring the wireless cam. The quality isnt too good though.
Yeah I know that the IP/TCP isnt correct, but it wont accept changes, even manually, thats the problem. I dont know what affect that would have on an intranet like we're going to have though, I guess all who's hooked up would have to have a unique address.
Win 2K 's ok I just prefer XP. I too have one running on 98 First Ed heh.

It looks like I wont be coming afterall.

With the approaching storm/s the TV station has decided to go on alert again.
As they always do when the probability of a hurricane is about to come our way.
Since I am the "transmitter guy" I have to get the site ready.
Get 3000gals of Diesel fuel for the generator and button down the hatches.

Also, Next week I am going to the spine center and have the doc poke around.
I've been told he likes to admit his patients imediatelly.. I hope so, I've had enough pain. So that may mean that I might get some time off work for good behavior from the salt mine for a few months..

Again, I will be missing a most awesome event, I really wanted to go and have some fun for a change and hang-out with you guys.. but not this time.
But my heart will be there.

The storm probably wont come anyway since I have to stay!!!

Hey, tell em to you got lasers to play with. The storm won't be here till Tuesday at the earliest. Tell em you also need lots of rest before the doc visit, and they said a nice long nap... in the car would help, maybe two long rides. That sux man. I love storms and want it to come this way... but not if it means you can't come.
