Default Homebuilt "Lightsaber" Copper Vapour Laser System

I've started a thread on LPF about this project about 1 year ago, at this moment it is fully complete. I've started building this laser after I had a big luck buying a russian sealed off CVL tube named UL-102 with a set of mirrors for it. The laser head itself and the power unit, that consists of three blocks I've built myself. The power unit consists of the Blumlein generator with a magnetic switch, thyratron driving oscillator and the HVDC source for the anode of the thyratron. All circuitry had been built with the use of vacuum tubes instead of modern solid state electronics. The main HV transformer is fully custom built too, including its oil tank. Estimated output power of the laser is about 5W on both lines (510 and 578 nm) out of 2 kW from the wall plug. More information about developing this project is here, on LPF. https://laserpointerforums.com/f43/h...tem-99252.html

That thyratron looks familiar! Is it a TGI1-1000/25 (ТГИ1-1000/25)?

Where do you get lucky enough to find a CVL tube like that?

I live in Ukraine and our research institutes sometimes decomission and sell out laser stuff.. I am looking for new lasers continiousely and get fresh news from people who work with lasers in the labs, about what they are going to sell away.

I love the script font on your labels! Gives it a victorian steam-punk look. That being said, this clearly was a lot of work. Glad to see you got it firing though! Very cool dude...
