    ADAT transcribed waves

    What else?
    LaserShowGen can.

Please post where to get the application and how much it costs and any other details you think are relevant.

    LaserBoy
    Download here: http://laserboy.org/forum/index.php?topic=10.0
    cost: free
    Open source
Runs in Windows. Can be compiled for Linux and Mac OSX
Does not connect directly to any DAC. Makes waves that can be played through a modified sound card DAC.
Reads and writes all forms of ILDA, plus DXF, ASCII text tables and waves.
Allows full 24 bit color 3D visualization, creation, rendering, editing and manipulating of vector art.

    James.
If you're referring to LaserShowGen, take a look at the bottom of Grix's post...

I did notice that some of the example files might be a bit beyond the frequency/speed range of common laser galvos. Fun stuff!
Totally – using it to control the laser is brand new beta territory... been enjoying the lack of limitations on an oscilloscope but now it's time for BIG! I plan to add some features (frequency limiting, low-pass) if one specifies they're using a laser.

Great list of programs above – thanks for gathering and I'll be sure to add to the guide.

A couple questions regarding the DAC»ILDA tech:

    RGB,
contrary to the pinout, does it really require balanced connections? seems to just be +5v?
(maybe that's laser dependent? or just good practice for a clean signal of distance?)

Also wondering about the shutter pin.. after some research,
seems that it's auto enabled in laser when getting signal on X + Y?
so probably don't need to worry about it in this setup?

The ILDA pinout allows for full differential I/O on XY and RGB, but that does not demand that the transmitting or receiving device be differential, that's part of the reason for a GND pin.
As for the projector input end, there is great benefit to having differential input on the XY, but for the RGB not as much. Shutter input serves as a means for blanking if the projector
output level is fixed with no color modulation capabilities as I understand it.

Was trying to research LWave but seems to have a 403 forbidden error?

+ Thanks for the RGB + Shutter clarification above!

Overview of Laser Specific tools thus far and details I'm most interested in:

    Name Environment OS Cost Realtime
    LaserBoy Application Windows Free -
LaserShowGen Application MacOS, Windows Free limited, $29.90 Pro
    Spaghetti Application Windows $89.90
    LWave Application Windows Free -

By realtime, I mean, can it generate the shapes/animations/etc and play them out in realtime to a multichannel audio DAC (not specialized laser DAC).
With LaserShowGen, I'm confused from the wording as it says realtime for 'laser DACs' – also the case for multi-ch audio DAC?
