Been looking for one of these for a very long time and one finally showed up. As mentioned, this is an all original Spectra-Physics model 162 air-cooled argon ion laser system from about 1973. The earliest mention of the model I've seen is in an ad in Laser Focus magazine from June of '72. It features resonator rods like the larger ion lasers, and is otherwise very sparse inside. There's a prism inside the housing at the rear. The model 262 power supply is as clean as the head, both apparently having spent their lives in a cabinet in a school.
