Thanks a lot! My power unit has a filament transformer with 4V output, some voltage drop on wires will give exactly something between 3.5 to 4V on the laser tube cathode. Does anyone remember the lasing threshold current for this tube?
If the mirrors are well aligned, and the Brewster windows are clean, you should see something at ~12 amps...
The mirrors do drift over time. However on that type of resonator, the best thing to do is assume they need no more then a quarter turn in any direction.
The o-rings that ALC uses in the Brewster covers get very stiff and dry over time, I sometimes loosen them by wetting with methanol and waiting a few minutes. It is very easy to break a stem, so be careful if you find yourself pulling. Usually I prefer to leave the covers in place and revove the mirror mounts to clean via a special cotton swab with a wood stick. Medical grade throat swab from pharmacy.
