    ... not the motion of a single photon, but a sort of "stroboscopic" propagation -- every image is a different "photon" or segment of a new beam, grabbed at the "next" position, so the combination of images looks like "traveling light"

    I'd just put a red X on a photon with a Sharpie marker and see where it goes.
