I particular like this YT of Jerobeam Fenderson's "Circles", much of it, not all, easily done within the 40Kpps and higher laser projector bandwidth.

You are tempting me to have a go at this one, Alden.
Every time I hit one of my QOSC frequency preset buttons, it triggers an envelope release, updates the frequency, then triggers the envelope's attack. (minimizes galvo snap when playing different frequencies)
IOW, I can duplicate part of this by just tapping one of the QOSC's sinewave preset button.✔
Other parts would be adding a PWM AM at different gains and pulsewidths. ✔
The (low resolution) speckle would be ~3kHz of PWM intensity mod (I prefer ColorMod, actually).✔
Then, there are bits with a 3X frequency sine and rotating square points summed with random points.✔
The foldbacks on the circle might not be part of my toolkit, TBH.🙄
Of course, neither the galvos nor would I approve of the hi frequency sweep finale'. 👿

I used to do this with simple square and/or sine wave AM on both XY axis and play with AM depth and XY gains.

This is mine, now.

Note the similarities between yours back then and mine now.
We both have waveform generators for QOSCs, AM, & ColorMod.
Each channel has, gain sliders, fine frequency tuning, and preset buttons.

we all know how they *should* look, and we all know it's impossible to capture the laser light and the experience.

I used to think this was the case but I've seen some tech lately that has blown me away by creating an equal experience to being there for graphics and abstracts. It's all horribly inefficient right now because it's insanely expensive HDR broadcast monitors and a ton of time spent perfecting a grade, but it's possible now and will just get more practical to do in the coming years.

My old fart reference has tables of patterns with numeric ratios... As well as the how to build section in your referenced PDF. So you could refer to a 13:9 Innie and see what it looks like, as well as the 5:3 five point star with respect to various phases and amplitudes and see what it looks like and then dial it up....

Just nitpicking a little...
