This is the second rocket-powered go-cart I've seen here on the forum. Well, third if you count the pulse-jet powered go-cart that Smogthemog had... Starting to wonder if there is a gene for laser enthusiasm that also instills a need for speed.?.

While I admit that the tech is very cool, I would be absolutely terrified to be going well in excess of 180 MPH just a few inches off the pavement with no protective structure around me. Like - you hit a pebble or crack in the pavement, and the next thing you know, you and the cart have been launched into low-earth orbit!

I can't believe those tiny tires can even hold together at such speeds. At 180 mph, a 10" tire is rotating at over 6000 RPM. That's more than double the rotational speed of the tires on a Formula 1 race car at top speed (~ 225 MPH).

Sigh. I guess I've become more risk-averse as I've aged. I might have been crazy enough to try something like this when I was in my 20's, but not today.

Still, more power to anyone with the guts to go for a spin in one of these things. Just be sure to post a link to the video!
