It sounds like it is possible to build the SPGN functionality but is it possible to get circuit details?

I have located my wiring diagrams for the spiral board I built that produces the SPGN effects such as sweep, diamonds, and direction, but with access through panel controls rather than through bits in the data. That reduces the complexity of the circuitry from digital switching and routing of analog signals to some simple inverting, summing, and wiring. I'll see what I can do about putting together something of a schematic for you.

If it's happening with an offset it could be a inv spiral in reset. Otherwise there was a clipper circuit that was added around Crystal Odyssey that the cycloids ran through. I never liked it, but I was pre-feedback scanners...

Just FYI, I believe that Brian is correct about the clipper being added for Crystal Odyssey (and equally correct that it was a fairly useless addition...). Here it is in Crystal Odyssey clipping a simple 2-oscillator cycloid into UFOs:
