Default Laser Oscilloscope App for iOS

Howdy folks! So, a quick back story. I moved across country about 6 months ago and the vast majority of my laser stuff has been in storage. Until we settle into a new home this summer, I've been dying to mess with lasers. SELEM can't come soon enough! About a month ago Buffo turned me onto this AI thing called Claude, which has finally given me something laser related to do! At first, I was very skeptical but figured I'd check it out. There is an app I've always wanted but I haven't a clue how to program an app. Within the first day of working with Claude, I had an up and working on my phone. I spent about a week refining it with Claude and finally submitted it to the app store for release.

I've named the new app, LaserScope. It's basically an oscilloscope in X/Y mode but with the ability to process color. I use this with my Wave-USB but it should work with any multi-channel audio device connected to iOS via USB. The channel assignments follow the ILDA standard, X/Y on channel 1&2, RGB on channel 3, 4 and 5.

If anyone is interested, it's available on the app store. The minimum iOS is 16.6. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/laserscope/id6759309833

I figured someone else might find a use for something like this. If you give it a try on something other than a Wave-USB, let me know if you don't mind. Would love to know if it works with other USB devices.

Very cool DZ! I'll have to give it a shot. How do you connect the WAVE-USB to the iPhone?

And yes, Claude is freaking awesome. I'm about a month away from announcing my own WAVE recorder -- I dropped ESP32 and refactored my entire project onto Raspberry Pi, and it's been going great. And Claude Code has done 95% of the code for it. My first PCB prototype mostly works but has issues, I'm confident the second one will be perfect and then I can announce the project more fully.

Will it run on a IPAD or just IPhone?

Thanks, Hank! Depends on the iOS device, if you have a device with lightning, there's an iOS lightning camera adapter. It has a connection for power and a USB port. If your iOS device has USB C, you can use a simple USB C to USB A adapter or something more complex like the iOS USB C to Digital AV multiport adapter.

Steve, it should work fine on iPad or iPhone.

I do have another app in Testflight if anyone is interested. You'd need a wave-usb and an iOS device with at least version 26.

hmm, I’m not sure. When submitting the app it seemed like it would be available every where. Not certain how to check at this point. It should be there.

Thanks, Roj! A month ago I could only dream of having an app like this. With Claude it became a possibility in no time. Now I can see the abstracts I’m building on the z5 before I open the shutter.

At some point I can look into other platforms. At the moment, even with paying for a subscription to Claude I keep hitting my usage limit. I’ve been having a blast though! The Wave-USB Player is now available in the App Store, the Wave-USB Recorder is in review and should be available this week. And, I’m wrapping up another app called the Wave-USB FX!

For anyone that wants to try Claude, for developing iOS apps, I highly recommend using the Claude agent within Xcode.

here’s a sneak peek of the Wave-USB FX!

Yeah, the CM modules are great, but I'm using the regular RPi4 since I need on-board USB-A slots, and the Ethernet port. I don't want have to build those into my own design when they're already there!

Am I understanding correctly that it converts XYRGB streams from a DAC into ILD file formats?
Pretty much! It will take any analog ILDA stream plus stereo audio and saves them to an 8-channel WAV file (but does record not an ILDA file yet, but it could**). And of course, it can play them back. (pretty much what DZ's WAVE-USB already does). I've also added Etherdream support so it can record the digital Etherdream stream to a WAV file (say from Radiator) with the audio track. It also output any corrected input signal to a real Etherdream or Laserdoc/Lasercube (over wifi). It can do other stuff, but I'll save that for later.

**Claude could write a simple WAV to ILDA file converter is about 30 seconds. That's probably easier than trying to record both formats natively.

That is a screen shot on my phone. This app, like the other will work on iPhone or iPad, so yes to multitouch! Although, I will likely implement some sort of external control since I prefer knobs, sliders and buttons.

I read on another forum that sending a link with ./US/. can cause this. Im not sure how to get some kind of a universal link. If you go to your App Store and do a search for LaserScope, does it come up and do you still get the error?
